I would say something! I wouldn't chance the safety of any of the children.

It would be helpful if you knew what the sex act was. I think you said you read an article....did it say what he did? The only reason I say this is because if an 18 year old boy gets caught having sex with his teenage girlfriend, even if it's consensual, he can be charged with statutory rape. So it would make a difference to me if it was consensual teenage sex versus rape or sex with a child.

I thought of that, too, but, if your list is like Florida's it doesn't specify the act. So, unfortunately, you have to be careful of everybody on the list. I wish they would specify because you are 100% right.

I believe Michigan posts what the offense was for. It doesn't come out and detail it exactly, but it does tell you the degree. You can be put on the sex offender list for peeing in public.
I would turn in the information you gathered. I am sure the children will be safe with their chaperones, but I would probably insist on at least being able to drive seperately and attend the trip.

I would definitely bring it up tp the school along with the list, or whatever other documentation you have, and let them be the judge. I can't imagine the guilt I'd feel if, God forbid, anything were to happen while on the field trip, and you didn't say anything. Oh, and if I saw this info firsthand (internet, article, whatever) my child would NOT go on this field trip, with or without me.

I thought that a sex offender could not be around children if the act involved a child. I am also confused about how he could own a business that involves children if he is on the sex offender list.

I was thinking the same thing.

In our neighborhood we had a sex offender move in with a friend of his. There was a home daycare two doors away from his house. The sheriff's office found out about the situation and they made the offender move out pronto!

First I would most definitly print out the info you have and take it to the principal right away! Secondly, I would let some kind of law enforcment know that he is at this place and hopefully they can get him away from it, my understanding is they cannot be within so manyfeet of children let alone own an establishment for children! There is no way i would let my girls go either, why give money to a person who enjoys destroying childrens lives? Our first job as a parent is to protect our children from these monsters. Sorry if i sound harsh, but this just really bothered me!

Yes, yes, and yes! It's irresponsible of the school not to have checked him out, and would be irresponsible of them to do this, unless there is a way to be SURE he wasn't going to be there. Either way, he'll make $ off this, and I wouldn't encourage business of any kind with him. I agree with what Amber says - they are not allowed to be around children. Heck, that's what the list is for, to protect children.

So if you've done the research, have found it's not a rumor, then the school needs to be approached and a different venue found. Wow. How scary is that. These people do not get rehabilitated and get way too many second chances. Makes me wonder if he's had victims from all this.
