I'd let the school know, too. Maybe they are already aware and know what his actual crime was, but I think that it should be brought to their attention anyway.

Before you going hanging this man, I agree with aliadam - find out of what offense he was convicted. Even if the sex offenders registry does not have the crime, it is public record, and with a bit of digging you can find out. I would start by calling the county courthouse in which he was tried and convicted and see what you need to do to get the information.

Or, here's a better solution. Why not contact the owner of the pumpkin patch yourself? Explain to him, very politely, that you have found out this information and would like to discuss it with him. If it is something that he did, such as have consensual sex while he was a young adult, then I would think he would be willing to put your fears at rest. If he's not willing to talk about it, then I would hesitate letting my child go without me.

It's always best to go to the horses mouth, so to speak.

Let us know what you decide, and how it all turns out.

I agree that you should find out what is going on first. We had a really close friend (he died earlier this year of a heartattack) that was on the s*x offenders list. But what happened was he dated a young lady for a short time thinking she was older than what she was. She said she was in her 20's (he was in his early 40's) but she was really only 17. The second he suspected (only after dating a couple weeks) he dropped her. She got mad and he ended up having to register as a s*x offener. He is NOT.

But I would do all I can to protect the kiddos just be careful.

i would say somethign to the school and present them with a opy of the sexo ffender list, and i thought that sex offenders period couldn't have anything to do with children? how can this guy run a family oriented business if he is a registered sex offender? i would get on the phone pronto and tell them that he is onthe sex offender list.

I would give the school the info and they should be responsible for finding out the situation. They know that a sex offender owns it and they should make sure the children are safe to go there. I would be going on the field trip with my child. No way would i let someone else be responsible for my child's safety when i know there could be possible danger from a registered sex offender.

Ok so I found him on the registry and the conviction is aggravated indecent assault.
He's required to have a lifetime registry not the 10 yr one for lesser charges.
I will print out all my info and send to the school. I am actually very curious to see how they handle this, but my dd will not be going!!

I totally understand your position, I know in our school district sometimes there is just not enough room on the bus for all the parents that want to go, in that case most parents will drive themselves. But we are not allowed to drive our kids there or take them back home with us, due to insurance issues. I was the only parent to volunteer to go to the museum with my dd3s Kindergarten class last year. Unbelievable, huh? Thankfully, the kids knew me rather well since I volunteered in the classroom so often, and with me being a preschool teacher it wasn't hard to keep track of them either, for me anyway. The teacher and I just split the class down the middle, she took 10 and I took 10 and it all worked out. But I do understand you wanting to go on the feild trips, I am the same way, I think I've gone on all of them so far, and plan on continuing to do so...my oldest is in 5th grade now.

So I called the school and told them, they are very concerned. I am awaiting a call back now to give them the links to the information I have. The offense doesn't say it was a child, but who cares?! There is also a criminal litigation going on as the owner let a hunter hunt on his orchard and he accidentally shot a woman and obviously she sued the hunter and land owner. I am anxious to see how they handle it!
