OK here is the scenario. dd's kindergarten class is going on a field trip apple and pumpkin picking at this orchard about 45 min. away. A SAHM group I belong to had informed us all that the owner is on the sex offender list! Do I inform dd's school of such? I signed up to be a chaperone but don't know if I'll get picked. In our area in the past 2 weeks I've heard about 4 different times different men trying to abduct and/or talk to small children so this leaves me very hesitant. If I do "tell" do I print out the info from the internet and the article? It was actually on the news awhile back. I want to tell the school.

YES!!! I would tell the school but have the article printed out - just so you're not "gossiping"...

I would have no moral issue or problem with telling ( the sex offender list is there for a reason ) And I think that every mom of every child there would be so grateful, I know that I would.

Good luck!

Well, I wouldn't say anything based on what you said you heard. It is all hearsay at this point. I am assuming you have not seen the list based on what you have written.

I would find out if it was true. Look up online and check into it. Don't just take their word for it. If it turns out to be true, I would talk to her teacher, show her or e-mail her the site you found this information on and go from there. I would probably write a letter AND request a meeting with the principal, too. I would not allow my child to go if I was not a chaperone if it does turn out to be true.

But, at this point, I don't think you can say 100% it is true. You would hate to look like a fool if it isn't true because you believed everything this group said without doing your research. JMO

Oh I did the research, I actually had the link to the news and an article and looked up the guys name online so it's all there. I had been to that orchard before too and of course if you don't know it... It really is such a fun orchard too with so many children's activities.
So I think I will print out the article and supply the links along with a letter from me requesting to be on that trip.

I too would probably do a little more checking (here's the national sex offender registry website). If he is on it, then I would definitely let the school know (go in with the information from the official registry list printed out to give them), and my child would be missing that trip.

Ditto. I might allow my child to go though, I'm assuming they'd be supervised by adults the entire time. Right?

Yes its 18 students, the teacher and 4 parents, plus the same for the other 4 kindergarten classes. I wish I could know the DETAILS of the sex offend, I mean I think ALOT of field trips are to this orchard.

Even with that many parents and adults, I would not risk letting my child go without me. You can't be too careful. I have been on enough kindergarten field trips to know it can get a little crazy in their excitement sometimes. We have never lost anybody, but I would not want to risk it - from a parents' perspective or a chaperone's perspective. JMO

YES! I would most definitely print out the info and bring it in. I'm not sure if he's someone who's abused children or not, but either way, I'd be uncomfortable with it, personally. Hopefully there are other orchards nearby...

Last year when my ds was in Kindergarten they did a field trip just like that. If the parents were not picked as chaperones to ride on the bus, they were still welcomed to come in their own cars. If that would make you feel better meet them there.
