When I had my first daughter, I scrubbed the home inside out. I torn everything apart; dressers, ovens, under rocking chairs, fridges. I went crazy trying to get rid of mice. Then I had my daughter and lets say, reality hit. That's when I finally took my mom's advice, "a few mice don't hurt." I guess we all survived. But I still hate mice. The best advice I got was, "if there is no food they won't stay". Keep cereal, pasta, bread in plastic containers (no cardboard) and clean floors every night. Good luck

I'd send my cat Clark over. He would eat the head off & leave the body. Not sure if that's an improvement....

She pays him back by sticking the dead mice at the foot of his chair, or better, in his boots. I take the cat's side on that one! He freaks out, but he's glad she gets the mice. Sneaky cat!

My dear I feel your pain! Last fall we had an INFESTATION of mice. We killed 28 of them altogether (at least that's as many as we took out of the house). We bought 12 boxes (the 4pks) of DCON and tried traps too. Still nothing. I put every stitch of food in the fridge or high cupboards (canned foods stayed in the lower cupboards) b'c like someone said, "if there's no food, they won't stay".. well they stayed alright. and they had babies. lots and lots of them. they ate the DCON and lived through it (monster mice). All I had after putting out DCON was green mouse poop - the DCON must have passed right through their system. It was gross. It was hard for me to feel like anything was disinfected b'c I can't use bleach (DH is allergic) so no matter how much I scrubbed, I always felt like I was never getting anything clean. I found mouse droppings EVERYWHERE. Trails in the bathroom, on the edges of my bookshelves, window sills, tv stand cubbies. I'd run the utensil crock through the dishwasher in the afternoon, put it back in place and wake up the next morning to mouse poop covering the bottom of it (they'd crawl in, do their business, and crawl out). I had to put my pots/pans on top of my fridge b'c that was the only place the mice couldn't poop in them daily. My knives were in my top cupboards and my linen closet became my makeshift pantry. I opened up the bottom drawer of my vanity one day to get a tampon (I had just started my period) to find an entire box of tampons chewed through and shredded into nest material. Believe you me, I told DH and my in-laws (who are our landlords) about the problem and they said "put out DCON". That was it. DCON 'em til they're dead. Finally, I turned a spice/utensil storage thing around and on the ledge of it (where there was a barred off spot to put utensils) were mass amounts of mouse poop. I screamed, threw the entire thing in the sink, cursed and started crying. After leaving the house in anger, DH followed after and when he found out what I was upset about, he went and looked. In the end, they still refused to let me do anything but DCON, and I just prayed everyday that they would disappear. This year, I'm going to try to put steel wool into the pipe holes in the bottom of the cupboards - maybe that will deter some of them. Not all, as there are huge gaping holes in our walls from the "just get it done" craftsmanship of our home; one behind the stove and one behind the washer/dryer. Big holes. Like the circumference of a soccer ball big. They won't board 'em up, so I guess I have to put out DCON as a preliminary thing and just PRAY that they don't come back like last year. I already saw some droppings under my sink when I opened the door last night...

yeah, well last year, as a last resort, I took the bottom part out of my oven to clean underneath b'c there was an awful burning smell coming from my oven when it was on. I thought it was french fries or chicken or something that had gotten down there and was just burning again and again. Nope. Guess what it was? Now, imagine how sick to your stomach you'd get immediately thinking of those times you suffered through the baking process b'c you thought it was a french fry that just had to burn off, or a piece of pepperoni that fell off the frozen pizza... only to realize it was - yep, you guessed it. Broiled mouse.

OK, you win. You have the worst mouse story. Oh, how gross. I am so sorry.
