Remember my dh convinced me to ask his parents to watch the kids while we go on a walking tour through the historic district of their town? I knew I shouldn't have done that! They now want us to stay the night (we only live 30 minutes away). I am allergic to her cat and can only handle short visits without getting sick. And there is NO WAY I trust them with our children overnight! I barely trust them for 1.5 hours! They stick them in front of the TV and that is it! They are not very hands on grandparents.
I sent her a nice e-mail telling her we appreciated the offer, but we wanted to come home on Friday and not spend the night (we will be done with the tour by 7:30). We would be happy to stay for dinner and roasting marshmallows. Well, she came back with quite a few reasons why we should: "I have washable floors now so the cat shouldn't bother you" (well, you did in S. Florida, too, and I still had severe allergy issues), "the kids will be disappointed" (no they won't - they don't like to be there very long either and they don't know about it anyways), "Fil will be disappointed about not making dh his waffles" (then make them for dessert on Friday night and we will eat them then!), "It is too far to drive that late at night" (we have done it many times before so why not this time), etc.
And, my FAVORITE comeback: "We can set up the tent in the backyard for you."

I HATE TO CAMP!!!! At first I thought she was being snarky, but then I thought about it more and, knowing her, she is probably 100% serious. She would put me and dh in the backyard thinking we would enjoy the time away from the kids. lol
Dh is going TDY tomorrow through Thursday so this is one more thing I have to remind him to do before he leaves. It is now in his court to say "NO!".
I knew I should never have asked in the first place!!!
