My kids love their animal train. I think it is Fisher Price. Also, ds got a toy for his 1st birthday that he has loved as well. It is the Parent's brand that you buy at Target. It has 4 holes at the top that you can hammer 4 balls into and they go down and come out at the bottom. That was a horrible explanation but I'm sure if you saw it you would know what I am talking about.

My nieces are almost 2 but they still love their toy cell phones, Dora balls (which were $1.00 each and they love to roll them back & forth to each other), and Fisher Price Peek-a-Blocks. They got these when they were 1 and they are still playing with them every day. I've also seen something called "My First Purse" and I think it's for ages 1+. It looks so cute.

You & Me stroller for $8.49
Wooden Peg Puzzle Value Bundle for $9.99 (plus several others for about the same price)
Pop-up Tent

My dd (now 19 months) & my niece (now 14 months) both love their Fisher Price learning chairs ...
Learning Chair – Musical Laugh & Learn Song & Story Chair From Fisher Price (my dd's)
Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn™ Musical Learning Chair™ (my niece's)

The fisher price animal train is lots of fun: Amazing Animals Sing & Go Choo Choo - Musical Zoo Train Toy (this one is cute b/c you can add on it it)

My dd loves her soccer ball (we got her a little pink one for her 1st b-day); she also loves her big giant soccer ball (came in a monster set) and her big bouncy ball.

Simple stacking cups/bowls are great, too:
bowls: Fisher-Price Infant Toys - Product Details (my dd loves hers)
cups: Babies "R" Us - The First Years Stack N Count Cups (again, my dd loves and these are also great at bath time)

HTH ...

My DD just turned 1 in the beginning of October. She got the Fisher Price Bouncing Zebra toy. They sit on it and they can spin and bounce up and down on it. Both DD1 & DD2 love to play with it! Also the Fisher Price Amazing Animals Train that someone else mentioned. She also loves to play with Sit n Spin and she has the Parents Be Bop Band. Peek a blocks, books, her own little chair to sit in, the Vtec Alphabet Train...she loves them all!

The fisher price animal train that others have mentioned is completely awesome! My dd who wasn't yet one got it last year for Christmas. Her and her sister (4yrs old) play with the thing everyday! It's one of those toys that doesn't get old and tossed aside.
