Yesterday I had just gotten back from running a check over to our neighbor for something we purchased from their daughter. The mom wanted to know my e-mail address and I gave it to her, thinking that she was going to send me news about our neighborhood holiday parties or something of that nature.

That evening I got, from her, an online invitation to one of those merchandise parties!! I mean, you know how you are told, "Oh you don't even have to buy anything, just come for the company and food?" Well Now apparently they just send you a e-mail invite and you can buy from their party online - no company, no messed up house, not even a door prize, no NOW you can just invite your friends to just buy from you!!

I am steamed!! We just spent $20 on something that we didn't need (dh bought the item) but I was OK with it, I wanted to support her organization - but sheesh what bad timing!! I thought it was so in extremely bad taste! I just got done writing them a check and now I get pressured to buy something from the mom online!!

I can understand if you are having a 'party' and someone couldn't come. Then you'd tell them they could get online and order something. But just a blatent, come to my Online party? I'm going to e-mail her back and tell her thanks, but we just don't need anything right now. UGH!

I really don't see what the big deal is, just don't buy from her. She probably thinks that people are so busy with the holidays coming up that it would be easier to just order something online than try to get everyone together during this busy season. This way they can shop from their home without fighting crowds and spending gas that is at such a ridiculous price!

I'd rather visit on on line party than to try to come up with a baby sitter, go to a party and feel pressured. I'm a complete hermit though...lol

I'd probably just ask if she would take me off her email list. I get tired of all that spam email!

I would use it as an option if someone couldn't make it that wasn't invited. I don't do those type of parties. I was just invited to a CAbi clothing party by evite invite. I looked at the website for kick and my goodness the clothes are not my style at all and neither are the prices!!! Has anyone ever heard of CAbi????

You should reply with a picture of a dozen homemade cookies and tell her you are taking orders now for christmas to beat the rush (say $35 a dozen) !!

I am not one for home parties of any kind, let alone online ones. She should have given you her card and said if you do any online shopping to check her out.

I am one of those rare people who likes home parties, but I think an online party is kind of tacky (and I am a consultant for a company that offers them). It is one thing to tell someone who is invited to your party that they can go online to look at the stuff if they can't make it, but I don't like online parties, or even book parties for that matter (although as a consultant I have had many successful catalog parties). I go to the parties for the socialization (and for the free goodies you can win).

I was actually just invited to a party and the hostess called the day of her show and said she wasn't having it and she was turning it into a book party. I probably would have placed a pretty big order with holiday shopping to be done, but without being able to see the merchandise and without the social aspect, I just didn't feel like placing an order. At least I saved myself some money!
