Depending on the type of heating system you have you can add one yourself. We have forced hot air and DH put the humidfier in himself (thats what he does though - he's a home heating service tech). I dont think it was expensive to purchase the unit. It makes a huge difference though if you have forced hot air, its not so dry in the house and you can adjust it to the amount of humidity you want.
