I have several. What made me think of this thread was that right now one of them is being tested....and it's a very weird phobia....WORKMEN!!! I'm not sure phobia is the exact right word, but I HATE it when workmen are here at home. My DH usually ends up taking off work because I don't want to see them, talk to them, have to even acknowledge them. UGH!!

On the more "normal" phobia things (if phobias can be considered normal) I'm also afraid of heights. I HATE those glass elevators in atriums where you can see yourself going up. And I HATE those escalators that aren't traditional, but just span through the air so you're going up on the escalator with nothing beneath you. And I HATE those skywalks that go from building to building above the street.....my hands actually sweat and I have to run across them.

I'm also somewhat claustrophobic. Every time I have an MRI (and I've had a bunch) they end up having to take me out once because I'll get freaked out. I think if I ever got stuck in an elevator I'd die from anxiety.

So enough about my neuroses Do you have any phobias???

I've got a good one - balloons. Go figure. I can't stand them, they make my heart race and I get really jumpy and sick to my stomach. Those helium silver foil ones are the worst, I always walk around the area they keep them in at the store. Gah!

All my friends and family know about it, so I never get balloons for anything....fine by me. At my first wedding, my SIL's thought that you HAD to have balloons, and that I could just deal with it, at the rehearsal dinner they informed me they were going to come in early and decorate with balloons and a balloon arch. I told them "NO! Absolutely NOT!", and they kept pushing it. I got upset and went to cry in the bathroom, and my maid of honor came in to see what was wrong. She went and told them that there was to be NO balloons, and they tried to argue that you had to have balloons at a wedding. MOH told them if they got some, she would make sure to be there early, and pop every single one of them.

I didn't have balloons at my wedding.

I HATE it when people think that your phobia is funny to tease about. It's very uncool to send people into panic attacks just because something that doesn't bother you scares them.

Not really! I don't like spiders, snakes, rodents, etc but I wouldn't consider it a phobia really! I've held a friends pet mouse and my cousin's snake! If I know they're pets I don't mind, but wild.... ew!

Needles. My brother would run around the house with a compass - you know, the drawing thing that has a point on one end, punching it into a sponge to freak me out when he found out I had that phobia.

I also hate worms.

I'm terrified of beetles. Of course this stems from my childhood when one crawled into my nightgown. I can handle any other bug no matter how big. I hate everything about them especially how they sound when the hit the window and how they crunch when my husband kills them for me! Eeewww!

larger spiders, and wood ticks, i have the wood tick one under control, but when we first moved out to the country and i would see one i would have nightmares about them. my mom thought it was hilarious, but she is terrified of snakes, so one day after she scared the bejeepers out of me with a woodtick i got her back witha snake and i said if your phobia isn't funny to you then mine isn;t funny to me.

Wow, you and I are the same when it comes to this...I can't stand when "work men" are at the house, even the pest control guy who stays outside.

And heights!! and I totally with you on all of that!!

Happy to hear that I'm not the only one with workmen phobia! I have had someone around here working outside painting and reroofing part of my house for the past month and I either locked myself in the house or took the kids somewhere, avoiding them at all cost!

I'm scared of heights too but didn't have a problem sky diving 15 years ago.

And I hate bugs and rodents. We recently caught a RAT in our garage! ewwww!! I was really freaked for a quite awhile because we knew we had a rodent wandering between the house and the garage in the porch area but couldn't catch. TG I never saw it!!

I'm also scared of the combination of dark, cold and windy. It gives me the heebie jeebies!

I'm afraid of the dark in new places. Like when we moved into our apartment or when we first moved into our house. I always had to have a flashlight right by my pillow and night lights everywhere. And even then, I'd turn on every light on my way to someplace, and every light would go off on my way back as I ran through the house to get back where DH was. There were times I even made him go with me. he was always good not to pick on me too.. (I guess he thought he needed to take a break from me being his comic relief LOL)

I'm also a little phobic about mice.. Not so much about them in a cage somewhere (just don't open up the cage and get them out), but more with them running amok. I had to face that fear last year though, as I had a serious infestation of them in my house.. it was just AWFUL (some of you may [choose not to] remember). Anyway, I'm worse now because no one took me for serious about it until it got so bad that we put 48 boxes of DCON throughout our house and took over 20 mice out that actually died in the traps and well.. it just made it worse. I've taken precautions to keep the suckers at bay this year (and every year in the future).. it was terrible. I had nightmares about it. I think maybe part of it stems from when I used to go to my cousin's house when I was younger and she had a huge terrarium of mice that had rapidly reproduced until there were like 30 of them. And she'd shut the door, put a blanket over the heating ducts and just let them all out of the cage and run everywhere.. *shudder* yep, that was it. That's what did it.. LOL ugh I got the skeevs..

Hi all, I have several, but the main ones are spiders, heights, crowds and small spaces. I just don't deal well with these things. And it seems to get worse the older I get. No idea why.
