We told ours when they got up, but honestly, except for a few years back, when my oldest son was into him, none of mine have watched too regular. They all know who he is, but they just were sad for his family more than anything.

My son is six, so I did tell him. He took a minute to process it and then said, "So does that mean that when we go to the Australian Zoo where the Wiggles were, I won't see him?" He had always been asking to go there and to meet Steve sometime, from when he saw the Wiggles Safari video, plus he loved watching Crocodile Hunter. I always told him if it was important to him, I was sure he'd get there. Terrible life lesson.

I don't think it will have any impact at all on us. We think it is tragic and sad, but that is about it. My kids know who he is, but they also realize that people die and life goes on.

I do think it will be best if you tell Stephen, especially if you think he will be upset. It will be much better for him to be upset with you there to comfort and reassure him than at school.

I know it sounds silly, since we never really "knew" him, but we are absolutely devastated. Steve Irwin is Joshua's idol! He absolutely adored him! I remember having to schedule our life around "Shark Week"....we went to see his movie as soon as it came out. He was an amazing man--it is so sad. I think this one has hit our little family pretty hard.

My boys only saw his show a couple of times so i in my house it's not something we will even mention to them.

However I liked the guy and enjoyed his show every once in awhile. I think it's heart breaking that his poor children lost their father so young. That is what makes me tear up when i think of it.

I don't know how you do such a dangerous job when you have a family. It must have been in his blood.

I hadn't heard until about an hour ago when I read it on the MSN homepage. How very sad and tragic. My dh and I watched his show when it first was on, before Animal Planet and his show were so popular. I remember we used to tell everybody about this nut of a guy that handles croc's and that they have to watch it. My ds heard me on the phone telling my sister (I was on with her when I read it) and he kept asking me what happend so I told him exactally what happend to him.

DS loves his shows, he is into crocodiles and reptiles. He was upset, didnt cry, but the concept of death is not there yet, He then saw his show on animal planet and said he is alive, since he is on TV, I think I was more upset than him!!

i had no kids yesterday or today but i had to explain it to my nephew. we all watched the show here. the kids loved the animal shows and hearing him talk about them. i think personally i am taking it a lot harder than my nephew did.

i think as a daycare we will send some nice cards to their family and make a donation.
