I am just curious how often you read to your kids. I am realizing now that Riley is in Kindergarten that i had been slacking.
Riley just brought home a reading incentive program called "Camp Read-a-lot"......they want us to read 50 minutes a week to our kids. Well that sounds easy right. It is but i'm realizing how little that is. It's less than 10 minutes a day. We usually read stories at bedtime but we hardly ever read other parts of the day. That's what i feel bad about.

I've decided that we will read a book during quiet time every day too.

How about you what do you do in your household?

We are readers... I'd say we read about 1-2 hours a day. My kids like to read in the morning, and we also read during our quiet time and at bed time. OK- pretty much anytime. We don't watch much TV. We all love books- I keep a big stack from the library going, so there is always something "new" to read. It is a great boredom buster or distratcor... "who wants to read a new book?"

They each get a book before bed. Very rarely do we read any other time. Although my 4yr old is taking a great interest in wanting to learn how to read himself. When they get older and can read I will make it more of a daily thing.

I'd say an avg of 30 mins per day during the week & 1 hour per day on the weekends. We have LOADS of books here (lots of hand me downs from my brother & sister's kids). I LOVE reading, and I LOVE reading to the kids. I'm pretty sure that if I were a SAHM, we'd probably be reading even more. And, I also expect that they get read to another 1 hour per weekday at DC/School.

Giving your kids the gift of a love for books is a fabulous thing! It will never let them down.

Like Jenn, we are readers too! We read all day, although not at bedtime. By then I've had it with Dr. Suess!!! We read throughout the day so I don't know how many minutes but probably at least an hour+ a day!

We read several times throughout the day. My 2 yr old loves books and she always wants to play library. I don't always get to finish a book, and its usually in spurts of 5-15 mins, but I figure every minute helps. Hopefully she'll love books as she grows up- I love to read so hope the girls will inherit that more than their Daddy's love of tv!

I've always made reading a priority. We read every day for about 45 minutes minimum. Bedtime is a constant, but it's only sometimes during the day. Don't compare, just try to do what you can while still making it important. You don't want it to be a chore for any of you. You still have plenty of time to catch up.

We're big readers here at our house. I love to read and I've always tried to foster that with the kids. Before they could read on their own, we would read every day, definately before bed and then usually during the day too. I'd say at least 30 min per day.

Now that they can read on their own, they read daily, usually at bedtime 20 min to an hour. Just depends on how tired they are, what time they get into bed etc

I'll be honest it depends on the child and time of year. My 9 yo didn't read very much at all this summer. He doesn't like it. It seems there are so many battles to pick that I just chose not to pick that one. During the school year he has to read about 15-20 minutes a day/night. My dd goes in streaks where it varies from a lot to just a bit. My youngest 2 love to read stories (of course I do the reading) and it averages 15 minutes a day.
