Sunday will make TWO months since we came home from vacation to find the water damage. On Thursday I finally spoke with the head person in the insurance claims office where the adjustor and the adjustor's manager works out of. Apparently they are having problems with the adjustor that they were not at liberty to tell me, but reading between the lines remedial actions were being taken. The head guy apologized to me, had EXCELLENT follow-up, and thanked me for having patience and understanding. Less than 24 hours after speaking with him for the first time he had issued me a check. We got it on Saturday!

My neighbor finished the drywall patching on Friday. I prepped and primed two out of the three rooms Saturday. I painted one room today - It took FOREVER!!!! It was the smallest room too. I will have to paint the other two rooms this week, after the boys are in bed. My neighbor's son is going to demo the shower walls for us this week so that I can put in matching tile to the new floor that is being replaced. I think I will wait to paint that room until he is done with that.

The vanities should be installed by the 12th. At that point I can have someone come in and measure for the vanity tops. I'm not decided 100% if I want Corian or Silestone. I already have the sinks, but not the faucets.

I'm purchasing the carpet for teh office and tile for the floors and shower Wednesday. So hopefully it will be installed by the last week of September.

I have so many check lists, but feel like I am missing something, like hiring the plumber to hook everything back up !

We are saving a lot of money by doing much of the work ourselves. This money is going to go toward new fixtures, towels, mats...for the bathrooms. It will go toward buying furniture in the office/bedroom. And if there is anything left over we will get a new kitchen floor too!!!

Wooooo Hoooooo! Not the way to do a remodel, but atleast I'm getting what I like! If it turns out nice I'll post pictures in October.

Dawn, I am so glad things are finally getting better. I know you must be pulling your hair out trying to keep the little ones out of all the remodeling mess! Good for you for being clever enough to save some money and do some of it yourself.

How was Robert's birthday?

Glad to hear things are moving now!! I have been thinking of you often. You really are living a nightmare we all worry about when we leave our homes for vacation. I hope it all goes smoothly from here.

Thanks ladies! It feels so good to actually see progress.

I have an appointment Friday to change our home owners insurance. Part of me feels bad because we are getting more out of the company than we have put into it. The agent and his staff have been good to deal with and did get things rolling. However the company as a whole has rubbed us the wrong way and we want to change now before they raise our rates and we are stuck mid year (our mortgage company pays our home owners insurance for us on an annual basis - which I also want to change - I want to hold onto that money and earn interest, not the mortgage company).
