My kids have gameboys and, I will admit, I am pretty addicted to it as well.

They call it a forward something system. The newest version is Nintendo DS, then Gameboy Advance SP, then Gameboy Advance, then Gameboy Color, then plain old Gameboy. At least I think that is all of them.

If you have a game that fits gameboy color, for example, all of the systems above it can use it so the only one that can't is regular gameboy. If you have a DS game, only DS systems can play it. Gameboy Advance SP games can be played on its system and all above it. My boys have a Gameboy Advance SP and everything but DS games play on theirs. They have a couple of Daddy's old Color games that play on it just fine.

So, the newer system you have, the more games can be played. The older system, the fewer games.

Does that make sense?

gameboy advance games can fit into DS games in the bottom. DS games can only fit into DS games, otherwise games for gameboy, gameboy advance, gameboy advance sp, gameboy color are all the same. I asked my girls otherwise I would have no clue, I hope this helps.

I don't mean to correct your girls, but the games for the color/regular and games for the advance/sp units are NOT the same at all. They are more square and larger. The advance and SP games are smaller rectangular shaped like the DS games.

We have had gameboys since the original came out years ago. Anybody want one of those??? lol

They are different shapes, but they are all the same width, so they all fit into the game system. Basically a new system will play its own type of cartridge, plus be able to play all that came out before it. My son has a gameboy color, a GBA, an SP and a DS. All the games fit and play on the latest models, but not the other way around. (an old machine wouldn't play a DS cartridge, but a DS machine will play a gameboy color cartridge)

Bottom line, the newer the game system, the more options you have for used games from old systems

Ok, the old gameboy and gameboy color play the same games.
Gameboy advance and sp can play the same games along with the gameboy color games.
Nintendo ds can only play advance and ds games.

I hope that clears things up some.

Yes, you can. There are two different slots on the DS. There is the slot on the top of the DS for DS games and a slot on the bottom of the DS that takes the other cartridges. My son plays both kinds on his DS.

My kids have the Nintendo DS and they have Nintendo DS games and Nintendo Advance games for it. Other than those two game types I don't know what fits the DS or other systems.

My hubby's birthday is next Friday and I am getting him a DS too. He has been completely addicted to the kids' since my son got his in October. Then when my daughter got hers on Christmas she also got a cool Mario game he LOVES.
