My kids have gameboys and, I will admit, I am pretty addicted to it as well.
They call it a forward something system. The newest version is Nintendo DS, then Gameboy Advance SP, then Gameboy Advance, then Gameboy Color, then plain old Gameboy. At least I think that is all of them.
If you have a game that fits gameboy color, for example, all of the systems above it can use it so the only one that can't is regular gameboy. If you have a DS game, only DS systems can play it. Gameboy Advance SP games can be played on its system and all above it. My boys have a Gameboy Advance SP and everything but DS games play on theirs. They have a couple of Daddy's old Color games that play on it just fine.
So, the newer system you have, the more games can be played. The older system, the fewer games.
Does that make sense?
