How long do they last typically? DD got hers last monday and still has it, its light but still there. Is that typical? Im guessing because its the first one anything goes? She had one heavy day but the rest have been normal or on the light side.

my poor dd has had a time with hers....she started on Sept.14th and she went 10 days and she was off for 2 weeks started again for 8 days and in Nov. she went 21 days and was off for 8 days and started again......it was awful...during this time she had started playing basketball so we thougth that maybe all the stuff she was doing was making her start hers alot....we had to take her to the DR. Dec 2 because she passed out on me while she was getting ready for school...that was soooo scary...I just figured that since she was having her period sooo stinking much that her iron was soooo low but they did a complete blood work on her and all was normal.....sooooo here we are now.....she has stayed normal for the month of Dec and she is also done with basketball for the school.....so we are thinking that maybe all the exercising made her period so irregular......but our problem is night...oh my goodness.....I am literally thinking about getting that girl some depends to wear...geeze.....lol...and she is all for it too...lol so she wont have to deal with such a mess when she gets up.

My DD started this summer, and she's more regular than I am. Sometimes, young girls are irregular (sometimes grown women are--like me). Just keep an eye on her, and for peace of mind, you could talk with a nurse about it. If it continues, I would take her to the doctor just to be sure.

I had that problem with my dd too. My solution was to buy the Overnight pads with wings(i buy Always brand) and double them up for better coverage. I overlap them slightly in the middle of her underwear so that she is covered high up in the front and also high up in the back. She's mostly a stomach sleeper so it works out well, she tends to move around alot if she's restless at night, so by overlapping them and with the wings, she's got some pretty good coverage. They do sell disposable panties for that time of the month, but i haven't resorted to that yet. Overlapping has worked well for dd.

You aren't kidding about the pads and toilet paper! I used to think pads were expensive just when i bought them for myself and now it seems like they disappear so fast now that dd has her monthly, i'm spending way too much on that stuff now.

Something else that might help is to buy her some panties that are made of a light, gurdle like fabric to wear on top of her others panties at night. That keeps everything in place and keeps it from sliding around and makes the coverage better. They need to be sort of tight fitting.

I usually buy Equate for most stuff but I have found in pads that the Equate just doesn't seem to work as well as the name brand.
