Your entire family should be proud, but especially your daughter. Thanks so much for sharing. I hope that she really feels empowered by having such a choice to make. Everyone wants her!!! That is AWESOME!!!
One bit of hope - my DH had the opposite problem with mediocre test scores but exceptional schoolwork. He was completely on his own at one of the most expensive universities in our state. While he got his first year paid for fairly easy because of all of the local scholarships (one-time checks) that he recieved, he had a really easy time getting scholarships and grants after his first year when he had a great GPA. He often ended up with more money than school cost. The majority of kids at DePauw and Miami have more money than they know what to do with and don't qualify for any scholarships or grants. The financial aid people would actually call DH and tell him about new things, because they knew he had great grades and really needed (and appreciated!) their help. He took 5 years because of a double major, and left owing nothing. True, it gets harder when your parent's have more, but make friends in that financial aid office.
