What is your first name? Christy
What are your kidsʼ names? Zach and Ty
Were you ready for motherhood? Yes
Have you ever met someone who has completely inspired you to be a better person? Can you tell us about that relationship and how it has affected you?
I am constantly meeting new people who inspire me to challenge myself in different ways: spiritually, physically, emotionally. Being a member of a MOMS Club now for three years has also played an important part in how can better myself and yet build on my confidence as a mother.
Do you have any nervous habits? What are they?
I rub my feet together if I am sitting down with my legs extended (it drives my dh batty) and I pick at my nails.
Did you ever date a guy your parents did not like? Were they right about him?
Yes and yes. He ended up in jail the very year I got married, if that gives you any idea!
What do you want your kids to remember the most about you?
That I was fun. That I loved them unconditionally and that everything they did big or small made me smile. I am so proud of them!
What did you learn the most from your mother?
Motherhood is challenging. She made it seem like she had it all in the bag but as adults we talk about each other's struggles and I feel we're walking the same path. I also learned the importance of giving of one's self for a charitable and nobel cause. My mom is very active in the community and the paybacks for that is so enriching for one's life.
How many coupons do you use on a regular basis?
I used to get the Sunday paper strictly for cutting coupons and those I didn't have I would mail off to friends but it seemed to not be worth the expense in doing it that way. Especially now that we shop at the commissary on base which is much cheaper than regular grocery stores and they provide their own coupons too. So I don't use them as much any more but know I am shopping wisely. I make the trip every week, even though it's a twenty minute drive out of my way.
What is your best money saving tip? If I can't pay cash for it, I can't afford it.
How did you find Mommysavers? Have you referred anyone here? Were you referred here?
I just had ds#1 and was going through some tough times. I had very limited experience with babies. My friend from Germany referred me here telling me she thought this would be a great resource for me (since I had so many questions, concerns, worries, celebrations). That was 4 1/2 years ago.
Out of all the things the members here have offered in terms of advice, support, counsel and criticism, what have you personally benefited from? And do you remember specifically who the member was that offered that advice?
I think it's safe to say that everyone I've come into contact with has played a part in making my stay here worthwhile. I know I can count on honest answers and advice when I ask. I appreciate that. There have been times when I have been down in the dumps and you girls will pick me up, dust me off, and motivate me to go on. When I have something to celebrate I can feel you all cheering me on too. When my grandpa and my aunt were really sick this summer, I knew you all were praying for him. I truly do believe in the power of Mommysavers prayers.
I enjoy the girls I meet in Health and Fitness. I love the commadarie of the members in Relationships and Soul Searching, and the Mod Squad has been so great over the years.
On a personal note, I have come to really appreciate the relationship I have established with 2bearsmom this year. She's been my rock this year!
Thanks Shell. I am also greatful for having the opportunity to meet and get to know Kim personally this year. We are so lucky to have someone take such good care of us on this board ladies!
What is the most romantic thing your dh ever did for you?
After he was commissioned (in 2005) he made a speech to the crowd (over a hundred people there) thanking his parents for all they did to make him the man he was. Then TEARFULLY he addressed me and told me he was doing all he coudl to make a good life for us and that he was nothing without me and thanked me for my support. NOT A DRY EYE IN THE CROWD! and so typically not dh. (aka Flyboy)
Tell us five things you like about yourself.
I'm fun
I'm honest
I'm CANADIAN proud
I'm motivated
What hobby do you enjoy the most? What got you started on it? How would you rate yourself? Can you show us a picture of your proudest piece of work?
This is a funny story. I am not a crafy one but every once in awhile I will try my hand at scrapbooking. I'm certainly not at the same level as the girls on this board, but I do try every now and then. In 2003 I made thirteen INDIVIDUAL scrapbooks for my preschool class and handed them out at their preschool graduation. All that work and not one once of proof. I kick myself about that all the time. I did, however, help my son this year with his 'ALL ABOUT ME' book:
How many frogs did you kiss before you found Mr. Right? Was he worth the wait?
I was boy crazy growing up. I loved the chase. But I met Mr. Right in high school and he swept me off my feet. I don't really count all those school yard kisses in kissing tag to be "frogs"...lol!!!
What is your favorite genre of music?
I can listen to just about anything, but I hate rap! If I can't play it in the car with my boys with me, I won't play it! I have started listening to a bunch of Christian music lately and I really like hard rock (quite the mix huh?). But will also listen to classical music from time to time and clean the house to The Wedding Singer Soundtracks! (love 80's)
Who is your favorite group?
I don't think I have a favorite group.
Have you ever seen them in concert?
I'm not big on concerts because of my whole claustophobic thing, but I have seen Bryan Adams and Janet Jackson. She was a GREAT show. Usher openned for her. I also went to see "ANOTHER ROADSIDE ATTRACTION" which was a mix of all kinds of bands and Sheryl Crow ROCKED!
List three things you have on your Life List; things you would like to accomplish before you leave this world
Run and complete a half marathon
Go to an Ellen show and dance with her!
Go back to Italy and actually travel and see it (instead of living and working there)
Which room in your house best reflects your personality?
My at home gym in the garage! (just kidding)
My bedroom. Everything else is getting ready to be remodelled!
What do you see your children growing up to be like? What career path would they choose?
My four year old is very inquisitive and very smart. He (thankfully) may have his daddy's brains. I think he will be an engineer in some capacity. He likes to learn how things work and why. His daddy is much the same. He used to take things apart and put them back together.
My two year old is very musical. He dances to everything and loves to sing. He's loud too (whiney and loud) so I can see him doing Opera at this point! LOL
Is there something we would never guess about you? Some kind or quirk you have no one close to you knows about. (Cʼmon tell us!!!!)
I'm foot
phobic.
I'm claustophobic
I don't like big crowds (shopping in huge malls with lots of people)
I can't sleep with my closet doors open
I have to lock all the doors before I go to bed.
Are there words you live by? What are they?
The Golden Rule:
"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." Matthew 7:12,
Have you ever met a mommysaver?
