what do you ladies think about the economical status of our country? i'm not too worried about it, but am finding alot of interest in keeping up with it...

the president is really trying to pump money into our economy to keep it from crashing. what's up with the 800-1200.00 rebate anyone who does income tax should be qualifying for? i could use that money!!! i saw a comic strip (political cartoon) of a woman watching tv with bush on the screen (caricatures) and he's saying, "the current state of the union..." and the lady is saying, "ah to **** with all of that! where's my rebate check?!" lol...that lady is SO me.

and the presidential race is taking some twists and turns that may actually have me reconsidering my non voting status (i don't vote by choice for the last 5 years--i used to vote religiously before then)...

so what's going on politically/economically in your neck of the woods? let's chat because these things are extremely important to our future and our kids future.

also as a conversation starter, i know a woman that goes without a LOT so she can save money for her toddler's college tuition. i say saving is great, but for college--i dunno if i would go that far...she may need to save up that money for emergency food use! with the way things are going NOW--college may not even exist when our babies grow up! LOL (it's a joke about the recession that's looming ahead).

I'm an optimistic person by nature, so I don't get into all the "doom & gloom" things like many people on here do. I think the country is fine, and have no doubt I'll have food in the future and that kids will be going to college in the future. Our country has been through a Great Depression and numerous recessions and the country has always come through. So I understand the normal ups & downs of economics and just smile through the rougher parts. Not going to panic.

This country isn't fine. The economy is horrible. I believe things will get a lot worse before they get better. That's just my two cents.

I'm coming from the Michigan perspective, of course, where we are in a 1 state recession & things have been much worse here than the rest of the country for several years. People here are VERY scared. All that has been in the news here for years is more layoffs, more job cuts, more foreclosures, empty homes everywhere, property values dropping, social services agencies overloaded, etc. Do I think overall the nation will get thru the ups and downs? Yes. Do I think our nation is facing a lot of trouble? Yes. Do I think tax rebates will do anything in the long haul? No.

Talk about a bad economy is cyclical, just like true recessions (I don't think we are headed to a TRUE recession). Any time there is a political year, the economy suddenly becomes all doom and gloom so that the candidates can complain about it.

It may be bad in spots, but the good thing about our country is if you are not happy in one area, you can move to a better area. It won't be easy, but you have the freedom to do it.

We are at a time in our life where we are doing okay. We have a fixed rate mortgage, good job with stable income. So we are not feeling any effects of the recession here, thank goodness. I know there are people who are hurting though. I agree that during an election year, there is always a downturn in the economy.

here no one SEEMS to be panicking...but there is a pinch in the air and i feel that the financial status of this country is alot worse than the politicians are letting on.

it will all come out in the wash though...we'll see.

Our economy is very bad right now and going to get worse. Until someone looks at the problem of all of our jobs going to other countries things will not get better. As far as this rebate to stimulate the economy, the only economy that will be stimulated is China's when everyone goes out to buy the goods that they make, we sure don't make anything that anyone can buy.

I haven't been around for a while because I went back to work full-time....until 3 weeks ago when 90% of the company I work for has been laid off. It was only supposed to be for a week but business has been really slow since before Christmas (I work for a company that manufactures shutters, windows and door jambs) so we have really been feeling the crunch from the bad housing market here. Hopefully I will be going back to work next week.
