My 5th grade daughter, just turned 11 last month, has friends that get dropped off at the movie theater and watch movies without an adult at the theater. This isn't a small town theater...it's big and in a big city with lots of different people around. I tell her she's too young to be left alone to watch a movie.

Am I weird? What are your thoughts on this?

I'm with you. My DD just turned 12 in November and I will not leave her at the theater with her friends to watch a movie, if I can't go and no other adults will be with them, she isn't going.

My husband & I do not allow our 6th grade girls (almost 12) to go to the movies, skating rink, etc. by themselves. It's not so much what they might do as much as it is that you never know who might be watching them.

That's how I'm thinking!! My high schooler goes with her group of friends and I'm ok with that. But, not an 11 year old and her 10 year old friend by themselves!

I parent so different than her best friends parents do and it makes it hard sometimes. For her...not for me!

I did let my oldest do this when she was that age, but I have never lived in a big city.

I probably started letting my kids at 13 or 14. I would drop them off, they would have a cell phone, and I would pick them up. I wouldn't do it at 10 or 11.

I can't stand seeing that in a theater...they always seat hop or theater hop and giggle or are otherwise loud. I've never seen a group of kids that age just sit quietly and watch. It really ruins it for the other paying guests.

I probably wouldn't do it at the age of 10 but by 12/13, it's probably fine. Just depends on where you live, the theatre, the kids involved etc

I agree. My DD and I have talked about this and I tell her I will be glad to take her let her meet her friends. She knows I will also be there and I will watch the same movie but I will do so several rows back from them. It's not that I don't trust her or her friends but I don't trust other people.

There is no town small enough that I would drop my DD off at that age!!! Just because I don't trust other people! Weirdos are everywhere!
