Default A 'no tip' salon...

We moved last spring and I'm still on the search for a place to get my nails done. I love, love, LOVE the spa I went to back at our old house but it's just too much of a haul for a weekly appt.

I was looking at websites today for some local salons, and noticed that one place in particular indicated that they were a 'no tipping' salon. I've never heard of that before! So I called them up and asked them about it and yes indeedy - they do not take tips. I talked to the salon owner and she told me that she pays her employees a very fair wage (according to her, more than any other salon in the area, even after tips) and that they felt that dropping the tipping custom was something they really wanted to do for their customers. They have a whole referral system set up, so that clients that refer other clients get gift cards towards services. Their prices are not unreasonable either. I thought it was kind of a cool concept!

That is cool! There was a segment on our local news a few months ago about a hair salon in a nearby town that has the same policy. They do not accept tips. I think it would be much more fair to the stylist. After all, you know some people do not tip or give poor tips.

I went to one like that a few times after we moved to WI. I loved the no tipping concept, but then they moved the salon and I would have had to drive around 45 minutes to get there. As nice as it was, it wasn't worth that.

That's awesome!

You know...I didn't know until I was 24 that you were "supposed to tip" hair stylists and nail techs. One of my friends was with me once and asked why I didn't tip my nail tech. I was quite embarassed.
