My cousin and his girlfriend were expecting their first child in mid-May. Friday night she started cramping really badly, unbearable, and bleeding heavy. They took her to the hospital and she had an emergency c-section. I still am not sure exactly what went wrong. The baby girl is only 2lbs and in an incubator (sp?). Right after the c-section she was rushed to the local children's hospital. The mom is still in the hospital too, expected to be released tomorrow or Monday. She only saw the baby for about 5 minutes. The baby is peeing, so they know her kidneys are working good. She can breath on her own for a little while. My cousin is young (21) and a first time dad and torn between two hospitals about 30 minutes apart. He is scared for his baby girl and hurting, but trying to keep it together for his girlfriend.

I can not imagine. All four of my kids were full-term and healthy. I do not know what they are going through and just hurt for them so badly. This little one has a LONG road ahead of her. She will not even be considered to go home for another 3months they said. Please keep this new family in your prayers.

From experience, preemies DO make it! I know once your cousin's girlfriend is released and they can all be together as a family that things will be much better. Sending lots of prayers their way!

I completely understand. My son was wisked away to another hospital on the other side of town. The care for premies has improved significantly and she has a good chance of making it. The next 3 months will be long and tiring but well worth it in the end. If you want to do something to help them out. Start a restaurant gift certificate and meal drive for them. They will be going to the hospital every single day and won't have much time for cooking. Most premies come home around their due date, so you can expect her to be home around the time she would have been born.
