rule of thumb is the same number of children that the birthday child is turning.........so if your child is turning 8 then invite 8 kids

I think my limit is 10. It is easier to do 8 though (b/c that is the amount of party bags and favors that come in one pack).

I like it best when the kids just invite 2 or 3 of their closest friends. We have had 6 or seven and that gets kinda wild!

It depends not only on the age of the child, but the kids they are inviting. When my oldest son turned 8 we had 15 kids here (in the back yard - I don't know how I would have coped if it had rained) and it was fine. We let him invite all his friends thinking not everyone would come - well, we were wrong. But, he has such great friends they were all well-behaved and it was a lot of fun. Now my younger son we have to limit, because a few of his very good friends are not so well-behaved - for his 7th birthday I limited him to 8 invitations and only 6 came (thankfully).

For me, the number of kids really depends on so many things...where we are going to be, what we're doing, how old are the kids etc

In the past I also have gone with the age = kids rule of thumb. This year however, I was lucky in the fact that my kids didn't want to invite that many... My 7yo had 5, my 5yo had 4 and my 11yo invited 5 also (her's was a sleepover).

For me though - It would also depend on what I was doing and where I was going. If I was going to a place that was large, and had lots for them to do - then I may invite more. There are some places that for the amount you spend they allow XX number of kids (no price break if less kids) so then I would let them fill up the quota if they wanted.

We just usually have ours at home (in the winter) ~ so that's why I keep lower numbers.
