My daughter's name is Lylea. Pronounced Lilly. No one gets it right. Most people say Lyle A. When she was in kindergarten she got tired of people pronouncing it wrong and she changed it!!! Seriously. She came home from school one day and I was looking through her papers and on the top of one she had wrote her name Lily. I aksed her about it and she said I am tired of people calling me Lyle A. Goof ball!

I went to school with someone who's name was Teddy Tinker. The kids used to sing "Teddy Tinker is a stinker when he farted his butt cheeks parted." Poor kid!!!
People thought I was crazy naming my youngest son Gunnar. I'm always looking for something different and it makes my parents really nervous when I'm pregnant. With ds #2 I told everyone I was naming him little Henry James. I thought it was cute. No one else did including dh so his name is Jared.

To be honest, I don't blame her. I don't get why parents assign entirely different spelling to names and then wonder why people can't pronounce it. Kid across the street from me - instead of Sidney, it's Sydnea. Why?

When I was a kid there was a kid named Star, but it was a girl!!
I don't have a problem with people mis pronouncing it. I knew it would happen and she is okay with it now but at 5 she hated it! And hey don't blame me I was 17 when I named her and spelled it!! I wanted to spell my other kids different but my hubby didn't want the boys spelled different and my other daughter, Grace, couldn't come up with anything for that!

I have to agree w/the spelling thing. I've had teachers misprounce my name and they were constantly correcting the "typo". My name's Jessika. My parents screwed up the middle name, too; they spelled it Earin (Erin). I always cringe whenever I see a kid w/a "odd" spelling.
Now, onto the fun part!
I know an Athena, Aeneas, Xera, and Keyna.
My oldest's middle name is Gray (after his great-grandfather).
My cousin named her DD Jimmie Marie (I still tell her I think she was mean; the kids only 15 months and ppl are already assuming she's a boy b/c of her name!).
My mom's name is Dollinda (pronounced Doll-linda). It's supposed to be a combination of my g-parents names' (Don and Linda).
I tried to name DS 1 Asher (DH wouldn't let me) and now I've actually seen it quite a few time.
I wanted to name DS 2 Rhys (again DH wouldn't let me).
My cousin named her son Kivan.
Went to a mommy group w/an Axel.
One of my bf's from HS was named Tiffanie. She hated always correcting the "typo" as well. Her sister's name was Natasia (the Russian spelling) but it bugged her, too.
