In 1989-90, I worked a great part-time job, the US Census. The pay was good, the hours were very flexible (I mostly worked from home) and they paid mileage. I ended up being a crew leader and many people on my crew would offer to drive materials to the next county over because the mileage payment ended up being more than the per-hour payment of just having them sit in the car.

This being mid-'08, the US Census is gearing up to hire NOW. If you're looking for a part-time job, I recommend you start contacting them now.
