Maybe we're very (very very) distantly related.... Someone in my family traced some sort of link to Jesse James through my great-grandmother's side. I'm not sure what the link is but I know you have to go through a bunch of people to find it.

I love researching our family history it is so fascinating to read about relatives. My DH's family is related to Daniel Boone. My great-great grandmother's maiden name was James. Jesse James was her cousin. Her family was from Iowa.

We also had an ancestor that came over on the Mayflower. My Great-Great-Great (I think, there may be one more Great on there) Aunt survived the sinking of the Titanic.

My cousin from my dad's side is really into researching geneology. She's been sending my dad envelopes with information. She told him that we are distant cousins to Billy Ray Cyrus. It's sort of funny because I told my boys they were distant cousins to Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana). Of course they went to school and told some kids and even a teacher only to be told that they wasn't.

I've had ancestry.com memberships on and off over the years. They have a tool where they give you a list of people you may be related to, and rate it by stars for likeliness to be accurate, and how they would be related. Mine popped out a couple dozen results, but only a few are likely to be accurate in my opinion, and they are distant relatives.

Frank Lloyd Wright (8th Cousin 4 times removed) is one likely to be accurate, as my family tree is full or Wrights on my dad's side. I've been to several Wright homes, and have always admired the architecture.

The closest relative would probably be a 9th cousin, and was a famous outlaw.
