Are boys harder to potty train then girls? My friend has a boy that will be four next month and isnt trained. I think this is crazy, but she says boys are harder. IS she right or is she just lazy? As far as I can see she just isnt even trying.

generally - yes! and the more active they are the longer it will take, usually.

My ds turned 4 last Nov and was potty trained last June. We had tried for months before that to get him to use the potty but he was in daycare and kept going in his pull-up because his friends did it. We kept a baggie of Fruit Loops in the drawer in the bathroom and we let him throw like 4 in the toilet so he could aim at them. That worked but it wasn't until I quit working last April and he was out of daycare that he really started trying hard to go only in the potty. I have always heard it takes boys longer than girls. And that the second or third child will probably learn faster or earlier because they want to do what their older sibling is doing. We'll see if that's the case, my other ds is 15mo so we'll have to wait and see what happens!

I've always heard that to be true. My only experience is with boys so I can't say for sure, but it does seem that I've had a harder go of it with my 3 year old son than my friends have had with their daughters of the same age.

I have to say YES, YES, YES they are harder to train in my house. I have 1 girl that was so easy and trained right at 2 years old. I have 3 boys that were not trained until 3 years old and each was a struggle. Boys in general (not always as there are exceptions to every rule) are slower to develop in many ways.

I agree with them being active that it takes longer! Evan would wait until the last possible second to run to the bathroom if he was playing. Well he still does that. I'll notice he's being a little ansy and I just tell him to hurry and run to the bathroom. He always says he doesn't have to go or how do you know I have to go. He is so into playing he doesn't want to take the time to leave. I keep telling him to just go, that his toys will still be there when he comes out!

Just today when I put my son on and he couldn't go he said "the pee is stuck mom it just won't come out" It was cute. I think my sons needed more reminding. They would wait so long and almost have an accident.

My boy was easy, my girl took forever! She was afraid to poop in the potty, took me 6 months to get her to. She thought it would hurt. My son potty trained himself in one day while I was in the hospital having Jenna. He had just turned two.
