No offense to anyone here who has a DH that does this type of job....but I hate workmen. I know previously when we talked about phobias, I talked about how this was one of my worst. And it seems to be getting worse all the time. It's so bad now that when we have work done around the house, my sweet DH takes off work because he knows I'm so freaked out being here alone with them all day. Once I was in the bathroom upstairs where we only have a sheer over the bottom half of the window and looked around to see a big face peering in the window.

We're having our interior painted over the next 3 days, and I've told DH I think I'm going to pack a cooler of drinks & food and lock myself in the bedroom during the day. Luckily he just looks at me and doesn't tell me I'm nuts even though I probably am

So am I the only person freaked out about having workmen in your house while you're home? Or should I be committed??

The guy that came in and fixed our pc gave me the creeps and it was awkward. Ummm he asked me if I had a boyfriend I made sure to bring up the dog from the basement! He works for himself so I have no idea who to complain too. I told dh next time something happens he WILL be here NOT me!

Were having our garage replaced and that will take 2 wks or so, but I hope they never ask to come in the house!

Well dh usually does all of our remodeling work around the house, so usually what we have to deal with are like when we had the central unit put in and the heater replaced on the hottub. I don't mind the workers but I hate the mess that they usually make and half clean up.

Look at you using those multi-quotes!

I'm not comfortable with it but it doesn't bug me too much - usually people I call I have a referral from my brother (or it is my brother) so I kind of know who I'm dealing with. Though one guy kept trying to take / buy our baby jogger one time. I was like, "I got a baby, NO!" I'm not sure what he wanted with it -- well I'm assuming he had a baby somewhere but it was odd. We used it all the time. I still use it.

Thank you all for noticing my uber skill at multiquoting!!

It's not just the being afraid of them thing....It's the "what do I do with myself while they're here?" thing. Do I sit at the kitchen table sipping coffee while there are people all around me working? Do I have to make polite chit chat? Are they talking about me behind my back and I can't tell (they're hispanic)? Just ALL of it put together give me the heebie-jeebies. Maybe M2M is right...I need to be committed!

I have a fabulous idea! Why don't you lock your computer in the bedroom, too!

Strangers in my home give me the creeps, too. I'm sure they aren't all bad, but I still get uncomfortable. And being a wife, I'm not sure I could handle my dh in a service job like that...think of all us lonely housewives he would be with every day??? LOL (j/k--I trust him completely)

Well, yes, you need to be committed, but I see your point. I don't care for workman, but, fortunately, the only time we had one for a long period of time (2 weeks to put in our hardwood floors), he was a great guy that got along well with us and the kids. I was thinking about him today wondering how he was doing. He was super nice!

But, he didn't peer into my bathroom window either. EWWWW!

And, I love the multiquotes. I am going to have to start doing that as well!!! I am so impressed!
