My daughter is having a tooth pulled this week. This is her first time. I'm not sure what to expect. Is there a lot of pain afterwards or is it a pretty fast recovery? Thanks for your help. I'm so nervous.

Is this a single tooth, done in the office? Is it loose at all? Infected?

I have six kids..several have had teeth pulled in the office due to the permanent ones coming in behind the baby ones. I have had one child have to be put to sleep in the hospital for major work, including three teeth being pulled due to abcesses. All recovered fairly quickly. The worst part was the numbing shots and then the first few hours of major drool time from the novocaine! After that, we just used tylenol as needed!

My son had 7 teeth pulled earlier this year. Granted it was done under sedation, but still I was worried. He came through it fine. He was a little sore the first day and had to keep them packed, but other than that, no problems.

Thanks for your replies. She is having a single tooth pulled at the dentist office and they are going to use "laughing gas". I had teeth pulled when I was little but I can't remember anything about it. It was so long ago .........

My dd's have each had several teeth pulled and had no problems whatsoever. I dont think either even needed motrin afterwards. Both had it done just with novacaine. Its over and done with so fast. Good luck!

I do not want to scare you in any way, as you are nervous already.

In Chicago a 5 yr. old girl was oversedated by someone NOT qualified to administer the laughing gas. Turns out this person did not even know how to use a stethoscope. Please ASK at her visit if the person has a license/formal training to be doing this.

As for the recovery, she may be a bit sore and should eat some soft foods. no chips or anything that can bother the opening where the tooth was.

I had quite a few pulled whan I was a kid. My dad was a doctor and neverlet us have the gas, so it was novicane. The painful part was that shot!
