I was just reading something online that said that Obama was supportive of free healthcare for illegal immigrants. First let me say...I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE AND I'M NOT SAYING HE SAID IT!!! I'm not posting the article because I do think it's a biased source and I don't like posting biased things where I'm not sure of the facts. But it started me thinking.

Has anyone else heard this? So would you be supportive of this? The article said it would be a huge number of people.

I would think that is something he would be supportive of. No proof....I'll try to do a search. I hate to say it but if he wants the hispanic votes...he will support this. The majority of this population voted Republician and this election....the polls are showing that they are favoring Obama.

Since I currently do not have health care right now, nor does my husband or children, I would probably say that I am not very inclined to support it for people who actually are not citizens of this country.

Would I be supportive? ~ Absolutely not!!!

I hope it's not true, and I haven't heard of this. We have a large immigrant population here (illegal and legal) and I can see this affecting an enormous amount of people.

I also have to agree that I would not support free health care for non-citizens.

No I would not support that either. If people are in our country ILLEGALLY, they are not entitled to free healthcare. Our legal and native citizens have trouble getting the healthcare they need why should others have it handed to them?

Ideally, no. Does it probably already happen? Yes. Many people - legal or not - get free health care at clinics or ERs as they have no money to pay. And many hospitals cannot just close their doors on them. Would I prefer that health care coverage go to citizens first? Yes. Do I think the child of illegals who is rushed to the ER for whatever reason should be denied care because they are illegal and cannot pay? No. Especially if you're dealing with something that is a communicable disease. It's one of those "no easy answers" thing. Yes, the ideal answer is "of course not." But, on the flip side, our immigration services is very understaffed, they cannot just round them all up & kick them out. Many will be here permanently. SOME solution will have to be worked out. Luckily, I'm not the one who will have to come up with it.

Maybe pay a small fee($20) each time they visit the ER. Nothing is free.

I just read through both the health care and immigration sections of Obama's campaign site and found nothing on this. The health care section repeatedly refers to health care for all Americans. It kept saying Americans. The only time it did not was when it referred to all children. Now, by Americans, does he mean any citizen of North or South America? Doubtful. Under the immigration section, it talked about strengthening borders, the understaffed departments, and working to keep families together when dealing with, perhaps, a situation where the parents are illegal but the kids aren't.

I'm the first to admit I've not seen every Obama speech or read everything he's written, so I've no idea if he's said something to that effect to begin with though.
