I have three people moving that I would like to buy/make/get gifts for.

The first two are neighbors that are relocating. While not super close friends, they are very nice people that I will really miss.

The third is my very good friend who is also relocating. All three are moving out of state.

The problem is that no one needs Anything. All are upwardly mobile and have everything they need in the way of...everything.

So I am looking for more 'token' items just to let them know I wish them well and will miss them. Should I just write out nice cards to them? Not because I'm being 'cheap', but because should the situation be reversed *I'd* almost prefer that? I do not need anything either, and that would be one less thing to pack.

Any ideas?!

When are they moving?? Do you have time to put something creative together?? I was thinking for the neighbors you could put together a neighborhood recipe/memory book. You could solicite other neighbors for a favorite recipe/picture/memory of the people that are moving and then put them together in a book and give it to the people that are moving.

For your friend, is there a momento from the area that you could get?? Like those "Cat's Meow" wooden village things. Then with a permanet marker you could write something on the back. Or if you have a picture of both of you, that in a nice frame, and you could even write a message on the back of the frame...

just some ideas....

How about a basket with cleaning supplies, roll of paper towel, contact paper cabinet liners, pb and J and bread for quick meal when they arrive.

This is something that can be the last thing on the moving truck and is all things that they need and would probably have to run out for...

?????

What about a gift card to maybe cracker barrel or applebees or even subway.

That way they could enjoy a meal after unpacking without having to worry about cooking!

I'd probably just bake them some cookies or muffins so they could have some snack during the move. For good friends who moved out of state, I've given them a "Michigan gift basket" of local goodies. Dried Michigan Cherries, Sanders Hot Fudge, Vernor's Ginger Ale and maybe a Michigan Calendar. Oh - and the oven mitt with the state of Michigan outlined on it.

But usually people moving do not want more "stuff" to pack.

Lots of great ideas that everyone is giving! I have something else you can do- maybe find out a little info about where they are moving too and maybe get coupons to local places in that area- or an entertainment book- or a gift card to a local eatery.

I like that idea...i would stick with food stuff! Like I'm from PA, I'm staying with my brother's family in SLc, Utah because our other brother is getting married! So I brought Amish type stuff from a local shop back home! I brought homemade pretzle mix, apple butter, homemade peanut butter, and some local candies and things that are hard to find out west. So basically, give them local favs. that they can take with them!
