Yesterday I opened up my dryer, while it was running, to pull out a few items while they were still sort of damp to hang. The dryer didn't stop running. The clothes just kept tumbling with the door open. This happened throughout the night. Tried turning it off/on, checking to see if whatever releases on the door was stuck, etc. Have any of you run into this? Is it easy to fix? Seems like it should be. DH wants to get a new washer/dryer now. The units are about 14 years old.

So it just keeps going when ever you turn it back on? How annoying! I guess the problem is with the mechanism where the door clicks in, you will need someone to have a look at it. 14 years is a long time for it to last so far!

I say if you can afford it, buy a new set. Buying a new energy efficient model will save you money and help the environment. Freecycle the old set. There is surely someone who needs a set that runs even if it has problems.

We've been casually shopping for a while. I want the new style front load washer/dryer that are up high on those boxes. They are supposed to be very energy efficient, but the price tag up front is quite high. The washer has some rust going on. I just hate spending the $, and then the bother, etc. etc.
