My son (7) has been reading with an elderly gentleman(87) once a week this summer. He was a volunteer in his first grade classroom. We usually meet him at the library but the last 3 wks I wasnt able to get there with my foot, he insisted on coming to our house. He walks everywhere let me just say I felt terrible about it last week as it was well over 90 degrees out( he drank a lot of water here) I want to show my appreciation for his dedication even if he had't come to our house. My question what on earth do you get an 87 yr old??? Should we just bake him something or maybe a gc to a local restruant? I dont know him well enough to know if he can have baked goods or if he ever eats out! Any other suggestions?

I have to say the man seems in great shape and he always wears a shirt and tie

Maybe a 25 gift certification to Wal-mart. And a home made card from your son.

Sounds like he is a great person to do this, and you are too, for wanting to thank him in such a nice way!

I say bake him something. Even if he can't have it, he won't tell you that and he'll love the idea anyway, lol.

He'll love a homemade card from DS...so make sure you do that Can you try to find or try to find out more about him? A gift idea though: perhaps a book (since he was working with Ev. on reading) or maybe a GC to a book store with a book light and bookmark (You could even have DS make him one).

Well I definately think that a homemade card from your son is a great idea. Maybe you could get a gc to a bookstore like Barnes & Noble since he reads alot, a tie would also be a good idea since he wears them alot. And I think any kind of homemade gift is a nice idea. Maybe you could have your son ask him what his fav. meal is and then have him over for dinner one night.
