Dodge Caravan??
Preferably one from before 2000??

My DH and I are looking for one... used. We have a pretty new Subaru Outback that will NOT hold three carseats, and with baby 3 coming in April we are looking for a van--cheap since we already have two newer vehicles and do not want car payments.

Well I found one for 3,000.00 in nearly perfect condition. I THOUGHT it was a 2000, but its a 96. Does anyone have one like this>> what do you think?

We have a 99 Grand Caravan and it has been great - the only concern is the transmissions typically have an issue. The people that we bought ours from had to have it replaced. Just something to check on.

We had a '94 that we loved until the transmission went out in it this past summer...it had over 175,000 miles on it!

We have a '99 that we bought when it only had 7,000 miles on it.

I HATE IT!!!

I like the comfort of the van and the size but then engine/transmission is a piece of crap! We have had nothing but trouble. It's been in the shop at least 6 times that I can remember for transmission problems.

I will never own another Dodge/Chrysler product again.

Oh, come on Shannon, tell us how you REALLY feel about your Caravan. LOL

I have to agree with Shannon on her assessment of Chrysler products. I've never owned a Chrysler and have no desire to ever do so, but my father owned a brand-new 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee (Chrysler product). He had nothing but problems with it, especially with the transmission. He would start it in the morning and have to wait 5 minutes before he could attempt to put in in gear and drive away. Apparently, the transmission had to have a few minutes to itself before it could face the day. The Jeep also had problems with brakes, rotors, and other little things. My dad couldn't get rid of that thing fast enough.

I've know a couple of people who've had good luck with their Chrysler products, but I've known more who've had problems. IMO, Chrysler's track record is very spotty.

I don't like the older ones, but I love my 2005. For an older model I'd probably stick with the toyota unless the one you are looking at has a new transmission! Good Luck!

We've had two Caravans and they both served us well. When we moved to Europe, we got rid of our cars, but kept the van and a gal that was living with my inlaws used it while she was here in the states. She was from South Africa and worked as a nanny here in the US. She used it for the three years she was here and now we have it back and it's still going strong. I think it's probably a 1996.
