After thinking we were done buying the kids christmas presents I think I'm going to get them scooters too. They have a friend whose scooter they love and actually enjoy more than their bikes. It would be nice they could all ride together instead of sharing during playdates. Anyway, what is a good kind? Of course I've seen the razor, but my kids are younger 4 and 2 1/2. My problem is that my kids are tall for their age and are already to big for the three wheel versions. Yikes! 3 wheels would've made me alot more comfortable. So to get a big kid 2 wheel, should I go for the razor or are the off brands good?
My dd would love the princess one, anyone have one? what do you think? Does it go after you push off or do you have to constantly push it?
Any info you can give me I would appreciate! TIA!

My ds is 4 and he has a 3 wheel one, which he enjoys more than his bike. I was thinking of getting him a 2 wheel one for his birthday, but it is not until July. so I am wondering at what age kids usually start the two wheel ones. I could buy him one for chistmas and he could use it in our unfinished basement, but we are in MN, so wouldn't be able to use it outside. Anyway, to answer your question, one of our friends dd has a princess one that she got 2 years ago, she is 6 now and it still works, I don't think she had any problems with it and I know she rides it all the time.

My son can do a two wheeled one..and he is not quite 6. My two year old does the three wheeled one with no problem. I have one put up for my almost 4 year old, but of course, when I ordered it months ago (from the Amazon Toy Clearance link on here back in May!), I had no idea the two year old would pick it up, too! She is getting a tricycle..and I bet money we have a fight over the scooter!

My 4 yo uses both the 3 and 2 wheeled versions. A word of caution though. Make sure your kids are wearing wrist guards as well as helmets when riding scooter. The #1 injury from them is broken wrists/forearms from kids putting their hands out when they land. My son is the only kid I know that wears them. Please, Please, Please make your kid wear them.

Ours also have to wear bicycle helmets on them. Our oldest dd crashed (she was about 12 on one, though!) and if she had not had on her helmet, I shudder to think of what could have happened. As it was, she had major booboos.

My kids used their scooters a lot in Europe, there was a lot of flat pavement or asphalt for smooth riding. We don't use them as much here in the US because in our neighborhood we have sidewalks with seams and it's really bumpy. Both my kids used the two wheel ones and learned really quickly. My younger son learned how to ride a scooter before he learned to ride a bike and actually I think it made his learning to ride a bike, a snap, because he had the balance thing down. We bought our scooters in France, I have no idea what brand they are, but they're not Razor. They're all metal and they've lasted a good many years and they've still got miles on them.

I would definetly get a Razor. We went through several brands and nothing really compares to the Razor. If you watch at Toys R Us, they have them on sale for $10.00 off. I also agree with the balance thing. I was giving up on the bike riding thing when someone told me to get them a scooter first. So,, all winter they were riding the scooter in the basement and I kid you not, on their very first try on the bike, I just stood there. They were off and riding. As far as the 2 or 3 wheel thing, my now 3 year old still prefers the 3 wheel.

My son has an off brand scooter, I have a razor (yep I have a scooter) My son is 6 and he's been riding his for quite some time. I use mine to scoot myself to the mailbox (I live in a big apt complex). Theyre alot of fun.
Make sure your kids wear a helmet, I make him wear his. He also has those heely shoes and I make him wear a helmet while trying to figure out how to roll around in those.
