I would be concerned. This product has been recalled i believe because kids swallow the small balls and get sick, I think their might have been a fatality too.

These toys are also good for children with any special needs with small motor functions. I very closely supervise my DS when we play these and "save" them for "special" playtimes. His Occupational Therapist recommended them before the recall and we're just Super Extra Careful when using them. Put me on the thumbs up side.

Target has a newer one my son saw today and wants for Christmas. It has gears in it. He is really into constructing things, so this will be great for him - but he has to be super-vigilant with dd around. The kit is $19.99.

The recall was where the pieces were ingested and the magnets actually were attracted to each other in the intestine and bound up the intestine; yes, it did cause a death.

There is a new set out, also, that is too large to swallow. Either way, your kids are old enough for the smaller ones.

On a side note, my son has motor skill issues, and Bionicles have been GREAT for him. He had difficulty at first, but is now a whiz. We even take pictures of his creations (you can combine different ones to make different creatures) and send it to Lego. They put their favorites up on their website. Great for the confidence level of a kid who feels different!

My boys love legos too! If anyone doesn't know already, you can get the Lego Magazine for Free (two year subscription). Both my kids get it and they look forward to it. They often have pics in it of kids submissions.

We have a 12 and 6 year old and they love them, the sets all work together, it's really a great imaginative toy. We got ours at Michael's and A.C. Moore craft stores because they have 40% off coupons every Sunday in the paper and you could use the coupon on the Magnetix.
