My boys have expressed some interest in Magnetix for Christmas. It would be a good item to put on their Christmas Lists for family because you can find them in so many stores.

I was looking at them the other day in Target and there seem to be different types. Are they interchangeable?

I am not sure how old your boys are, but if they are young and still suseptable to putting things in thier mouths you may want to reconsider. These toys were recalled because the magnets can come out and young kids were swallowing them, causing their bowels to become stuck together and requiring surgery to fix it. If your kids are older, this shouldn't be a problem. I do believe the sets can be intermixed.

We have a number of sets that I got on clearance for Christmas last year and birthdays this year. While I got them for my six year old, my four year old loves them, too. The sets are interchangeable.

I worried about them with my two year old, but it has not been a problem. My son knows to pick them up as soon as he is done or they get taken away.

My boys love them, too. They are 12 and almost 6. They keep them in a container, so that it is easy to pick up and to find the pieces. We mix all the different ones...whether they came from the Dollar General and are cheap ones or are the real deal. They are super for the imagination!

I bought these last year for my oldest two and I have to say the entire family has enjoyed them! At that same time, the notice about the recall came out and it did bother me a little, but we've had no problem with a two year old in the house, either. I got the generic ones and we've never had trouble with the magnets falling out or anything like that. I had bought name brand Magnetix at a store and I can't remember how many pieces were in a set, but I gave $20 for each set...then I stopped in at Walgreen's and found the generic sets for $10 per set for wayyyyyyy more pieces....I was able to take the two sets back that cost me $40 and purchase just one generic set for $10! They really are lots of fun.

My 8 yr old LOVES them. He is also into things like legos and tinker toys so if your kids like things like that they will probably like the Magnetix. They are really expensive though to get enough to do something with. Don't be deceived by the box that says '50 pieces' because 1/2 the pieces are the little balls so not many colored pieces to do much with until you get a few sets.

My nephew and kids love them! I would buy the Magnetix brand and NOT the off brands. They are all interchangable if you buy the same brand. They are great for that age group! Toysrus always has them on sale and buy one get one free.

I bought them and my kids really didn't play with them much at all. I have 8 yr. old twins. If you are going to buy them, watch for Kmart's bogo sale- that's where I got mine. They start the xmas bogo sales around thanksgiving. My kids seem to have more fun with Bionicles, which are also interchangeable.
