Anytime that I ever tried to use coupons I could always get a cheaper price by purchasing a store brand instead.

Am I doing or not doing something? How do you coupon and save money?

Don't feel bad, I feel the same way most of the time. Many of these mommysavers are lucky enough to have stores double dollar coupons, even luckier if they can do it with more than one of the same coupon. I have to drive over an hour to get this and I can only do one of a coupon per visit... but if I know I'll be going there anyway, I'll stock up on coupons for a few weeks!
For me to save, I have to REALLY check the sales and keep an eye on the coupons I find (mostly online). Like the other week a local store had betty crocker scalloped potatoes 10/10 and online I could get .40 off coupons. I got lucky and had a problem with the coupons and when the cashier had to come (self checkouts) and swipe her card thing, it actually doubled my coupons even though they said do not double... so I got them for .20 a box! I really don't make out great, the store brands turn out cheaper, but hopefully some of the other mommys will help with more ideas. I just wanted to you know it's not just you!!! I'll be watching to see what other tips you get!! :>

My stores do not double over 35-40 cents. But hold your coupons till the item goes on sale and then stock up if possible for 12 weeks worth. (this is what I try to do)

I only use a few coupons per week for this same reason - store brands are often cheaper than the brand name items even with the coupon. However, when the name brand is on sale I can sometimes get a good deal - we do have several stores that double, which helps. There are also a few things that we just do not like the store brand, and I love to find coupons for those items. I still think coupons are worth the effort - even though I may only save a few dollars a week with them (as opposed to some of the ladies on here) it is still money in my pocket and even $2 a week is over $100 a year.

In order to get the best use out of your coupons you have to wait for a sale. Store brands are sometimes cheaper but if you have a coupon for a name brand and it goes on sale, that normally makes it much cheaper to purchase the name brand.

I only keep and use the coupons I buy the item for anyway. The rest I am on coupons trains and I trade for items I need coupons for.

I only use coupons on brand name products that I was going to buy anyway. Even then, I forget I have a coupon about half the time.
