There are two issues I have here - Wasting money, and wasting time. And I can't stand either notion. And in the following situation, one has to do with the other. Now, this could have been put under the "What you won't buy for your kids" thread, but this has to do with couponing, so...Let me explain...

Now, I clip coupons, right? That has to do with saving money. And it takes time to clip, sort, and organize coupons, correct? Sometimes ALOT of time. And "time" is something I consider precious to me.

So what am I to do with a DH who doesn't seem to GET that, and DEFEATS the whole purpose of what I'm trying to do - by making FRIVOLOUS PURCHASES??

Case in point:
My DD loves balloons. What kid doessn't? Right? And I don't have an issue with occasionally buying her a $2 balloon, here and there,...IF I have the money...and IF I'm feeling particularly generous that day. And the reason I say that, is because I look at this $2 balloon as $2 being (literally) thrown right into the garbage!! Because they never last more than 24 hrs...and then into the garbage they go!

Lately though, DH has been buying DD ALOT of balloons...and SIX DOLLAR ones at that!! TWO in just the last week and a half!! I swear, if he brings one more SIX DOLLAR BALLOON into this house I'm going to SCREAM!!

I just see this as a HUGE waste of money, and it completely defeats the purpose of me sitting here, sometimes for long amounts of time, clipping coupons in order to SAVE us money!!

Have any of you ever had to deal with these frustrations??
Have you ever been made to feel as though you're doing all YOU can to skrimp and save, and then realize that it's all for NOTHING?? Maybe it's just MY Dh...I don't know...he just doesn't seem to have a grip on what I'm trying to do. I threw a FIT about the first balloon...then what does he do?...4 days later he buys ANOTHER ONE??

This isn't really about balloons, is it? Or coupons. It's about wasting money. And OH how I hate to waste money! It's just that right now COUPONING is the only way I can "contribute" to my family financially, so it hits a sore spot with me.

Sorry for the vent! This just riles me up, and makes me CRAZY to realize that the one person who is supposed to be working WITH YOU is working AGAINST YOU!!

Won't stop my couponing though!!

I have to say I completely understand. Our wedding anniversary is Monday night. When I asked him where we were gonna eat he said he didn't know it depends how much money we have and he doesn't have a lot so I thought okay maybe we'll just eat somewhere cheap and then go to the park or something. Well this weekend he is going on a canoe trip with his company (all expense paid) except gas of course. What does he do he goes and spends $20 on a steak....ONE steak....What the F***? Why does he need to spend $20 for one meal for a camping trip. When there is already food provided.

I am always clipping coupons to save money and latley it's like he's been working against me. I don't know why he's doing it, but it's really pi$$**g me off. Sorry for the language, but give me a break here.

One more example was yesterday he called in sick to work, but seemed to be fine. Then he proceeds to go to Hardee's for breakfast and we had leftover biscuits and gravy at home from the night before. So not only are we gonna be 10 hours short on his paycheck, but he's spending money we don't need to spend.

I do not know why our dh are acting this way. Maybe it's the moon or something

I have a similar story but not related to couponing. I once had a successful yardsale and my DH took the money right when it was done and went to buy things for his hobby I did not get to see a single penny.

OHHHHH YEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as much as it killed me for one month I didn't buy anything. I was kinda luck b/c we were getting low and running out of stockpile. then I went out a brought everything we were out of at full price. needless to say dh saw the light. The only problem is his light goes of more often than I care to mention. okay, I need that frying pan now.

EXACTLY!!! I mean they do want us to save money. I think? At least mine says he's glad I'm a "smart shopper" now and saving us money.
Any money he spends is stupid money! I'm with allgirls....I'll borrow your frying pan. (No sense in each of us buying a new one. Maybe we can just share).

Yeah mine wonders why I am not paying bills off left and right...hmm could it be the $60+ a month you spend on video games and another $50+ for things for biking...and withdrawling $20-40 each week to blow on lunches at work....etc etc. Then I feel bad buying things we need for the kids and have resorted to using Angel Foods to cut costs.

wow. 6.00 for a ballooon i dont think i would be very happy either, i will once in a while buy my kids a pack of ballooons and we blow them up at home so you get several for a dollar or 2. the only time i buy the other type is on their birthdays(i didnt for my dd 1st birthday casue she could care lessa bout them,LOL) but i get the nice hellium ones at the same place i buy their cakses, i think they cost around 4.00(i think it is ridiculous but my son loves them so once a year wont hurt) i get it in whatever theme their party is in. but i am kinda lucky with the husband things, since he hates spending money i dotn have to worry about it. when he finds out how much something costs of ours, or if he is with me and we go out to eat, he is like that is crazy!! and the bill is only like 13.00 for 2 big hamburgers, fries and 2 sodas at a diner, i dont think that is crazy but he hates spending money so i do all the shopping, all the bill paying, etc. he just has his money for the week for luncha nd thats it i know i am pretty lucky with this, most husbands wouldnt do it. my cousin is a sahm and her husband works, she has to ask him beofre she can buy anything and she NEVER has any money in her pockets.

Oh, don't even get me STARTED about that!! Yesterday, DH comes up to me and gives me $20 to buy food through the weekend. He then comes back 5 min. later, and says "Give me the 20 back, I'm going to go put gas in the car." He comes back, hands me $5, and tells me, "Better save that for gas too!" So, it's like "What do you expect us to EAT then?" This was BEFORE I made him call his work and ask to PICK UP his check (which he'll do today) instead of them mailing it, and us not getting it until Monday! Geez...no common sense sometimes!!

Like Bill Engval says..."Heeeeeere's you sign!!"

Oh MAN would that have set me off!!

Yardsales are so much work, I keep trying to talk myself OUT of them!!

If my DH were to snatch up my hard-earned yardsale money...well, let's just say he'd have a frying pan INDENT in the middle of his forehead to show off to all his friends!!!
