I use coupons also. As others have said, with coupons and sales you can get name brand cheaper than generic sometimes. I am at the same point as goin24/7; i only buy sale and coupn items except for the fresh items, then I try to buy veggies & fruit in season so the only fresh items I buy weekly and aren't on sale are milk, bread & lunchmeat. (I also try to only buy meat on sale) I typically save at least 50% each week, some weeks I save much more!

I use coupons. I have found that I throw away a lot of them but it is still worth it and I find it fun sometimes. I think there are some pretty good deals on loss leaders. Sometimes if you find something that is 10 for $10 and then you have a .50 cents off coupon that is a great deal. I will shop generic if I can but coupons sometimes make the brand name cheaper then the generic.

COMPLETELY with what everyone here has said - especially about how sometimes items end up being FREE WITH COUPONS!! What more do you want?? Just go to the store and GET IT!! I bought a box of cereal the other day, and inside was a coupon for a FREE box of Stackers!! Boom! Free food.

The only thing I can add to the above would be: "Look at the numbers!!" If you check the October Coupon Challenge thread, you'll see that many participants saved HUNDREDS of dollars last month using coupons!! For a SAHM, who may have no other way of contributing financially to her family - that's got to be a HUGE boost to her self-worth!! I know it is to mine.

And yes, it's TOTALLY worth my time!! And I often wonder how much I would save if I actually watched sales!! Seriously...how long does it take to cut out a little piece of paper? Four seconds? I can't see myself ever NOT using coupons now!!

Yes, they are worth it for me. When I am saving money every time I go to the store for the things that I need then it is worth it. I won't drop a coupon if I can get another brand cheaper. I am not brand loyal. But, I watch the sales and get what I can. I would love to save 30% or more, but I am only saving 10% or so. Mabye after I stockpile I will get there.

I love using coupons. Most shopping trips I save anywhere from $5--$30 depending on how big of a trip I am doing. The other day, I got Motrin, Childrens Motrin, Sudafed and two Cokes for $8. Queit a deal when the bill was $25 to begin with.

absolutely yes they are worth it.

everyone has already stated the most obvious reasons. I giggle a little when I hear people say that they save more than me (NO ONE HERE!...so no offense to anyone) because they buy generics. and that is great for them...but Iknow the truth. there is no other job out there for me right now that pays me as well as couponing.

today I'll be going to kroger and my total after my kroger card should be near $300 (if everything I want is in stock). after my coupons my total should be under $75 (and I still have $50 on a gift card from a diaper study I did at the discovery center here )

Same with me....I work full time so it is just more time to figure out who has what on sale and what coupons I could use to really make my shopping worth it. If I stayed home, Id do my best to make sure I saved as much money as possibly on the groceries. For now, I buy store brand or whatever is on sale with the store 'bonus' card.

that is the beauty of it. I DON'T track the sales and match them up to the coupons. for $20 every 8 weeks...someone does it for me for 3 different stores.

I voted 'no' even though I don't buy generic. I tend to buy products that don't have coupons associated to them - whole, unbranded foods like produce, basic meat, etc. I also tend to buy organic - again, not something that tends to have a coupon. Or I shop at stores that don't accept coupons.

The few times I find a coupon for a brand I tend to buy, I'm like the above, I forget all about it. Many times the coupon expires before I have a chance to use it. Frequently I'll go to use a coupon and find another brand name item that is as cheap, if not cheaper, than the brand that needs the coupon. In other words, often coupons aren't valued high enough to make it worthwhile.
