However many you need! I've used a "family pack," which is, I think, five pounds. I've also used a small pack--probably 4-6 steaks and it was fine, too. Just extra gravy.

My DH LOVED this! I left out the flour, browned the meat before putting it in the crockpot and before serving, I added a can of mushrooms. YUM!

Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Looks really good. Family likes steak and gravy a lot. This is a great site.

I was going to make this again tonight and serve it over rice. I liked it alot and way too easy. I would like to make the gravy a little thicker. It was too thin for me. How would I go about making it thicker other that maybe adding less water?

Thanks,
cooking challlenged

Maybe once it is ready you could remove the steaks and turn to high and stir in some cornstarch. I always use cornstarch to thicken up my stir fry sauces.

maybe a little more flour would make the gravy thicker while it cooked. I also like the idea of the cornstarch after it is cooked. I always put some water in a cup and add the cornstarch to it and mix really good before adding to anything then it doesn't clump. HTH

I've never had a problem with it being too thin.... Mine usually turns out REALLY thick--almost to the point of being too thick. Hmm. How long did you cook it? I usually cook it all day. That might be part of it. Also, did you flour the steaks beforehand?

I have 6 steaks in there. 2 cups water, 1pkg brown gravy, 1 pkg onion soup mix. I am cooking it for 7 hours. No flour on the steaks.
