What do you do about draining the grease?? I do it usually at least once while it is cooking. Does it cook firm or is it soggy since you cook it with the lid on and the condensation of the water drop onto the meatloaf??

I use a leaner ground beef and mine always turns out fine...when I cook mine in the oven I do it in an oval pan with a lid...so for me crock pot really isn't all that different.Cooks up fine-I dont consider it soggy at all......one tip...and this can be found just about anywhere...is to criss cross about 6 strips of foil on bottom of crock before putting in the loaf...then when it's done you can just lift it out.

Here's my suggestion if you're hesitant...try a small one first...maybe make one for meatloaf sandwiches or something, like a test run one...then if it doesn't turn out to cook up how youre wanting it too you wont have nearly as much invested in it as a full sized one.

Well if you criss cross the foil underneath, it won't be sitting in the grease right? I've done chicken with the foil underneath to drain and it turned out great. I never thought of meatloaf in the slow cooker, I'm going to have to try this one! Thanks.

Paula Deen puts a couple of slices of bread under her meatloaf to soak up the grease.

I finally tried it and it came out great!! I did the foil trick so it would be easy to lift out. Not as much grease as I thought and I didnt use lean hamburger. Came out really good. Almost better than cooking it in the oven.
