I'm new at useing a crock pot; cooking at all for that matter. I tried cooking a roast all day while I was at work and it turned out really mushy and over-done and gross. I put it on at about 6:30 am and I don't get home until about 7:30 pm; any suggestions for trying to cook in a crock pot for that many hours (and yes I had it on low)??? I have two jobs so its hard for me to make dinner right when I get home. I think I'm going to try to some of the freezer meal ideas but I really want to use my crock pot, too.

The only thing I could think of was maybe too much liquid was added.

I use my crockpot at least 3 times a week, and I have really never had that problem. I have accidently left in on high instead of low.

11 hours ,even on low...is really gonna cook the daylights out of stuff...especially if youre starting with chicken or a decent cut of meat anyway.

Are you hoping to use the crock pot every day?

You might wanna try spaghetti and meatballs.

Could you get someone to turn it to warm or even off a little earlier.

I agree that 11 hours even on low will cook the daylights out of any food. I can recommend 3 things:

1) Start with slightly frozen meat so it will take longer to cook.
2) Purchase a crockpot that has a timer built in. I know I take my meat out almost an hour before grilling it to get it to room temperature so it doesn't have to cook as long.
3) Use your existing crockpot and purchase a timer to plug into the wall and then plug your crockpot into the timer.

I've cooked meals with slightly frozen meat and it came out great!!

Crockpot cooking is a bunch of trial and error. Please let us know what ends up working for you!!
