Here is a copy of the email that I am sending out to businesses (It should give you an idea of what will be going on):
Hello,
My name is Sara and I am the mother of a beautiful little girl whose name is Madison. Madison is now 5 years old and has had juvenile diabetes since just before she turned 2. This year I am organizing a fundraiser to help JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) find a cure for my daughter and all of the other children who live with this disease. This fundraiser will be an all-day scrapbook event and will be held in Appleton, Wisconsin on October 27th of this year. I am writing to ask for your support.
For some background on Type 1 Diabetes ... the national average for Type 1
diabetic students is one per 500 students in K5-12th grades. Type 1 was once
called “juvenile” diabetes, until it was discovered several years ago that there
is no age discrepancy when it comes to diagnosis. While insulin is a
breakthrough in the treatment of Type 1 diabetes, it is not a cure.
Each attendee makes a donation to JDRF to participate and will receive a goodie
bag filled with various items that have been donated by local businesses and
consultants. We have independent consultants from various home-based
scrapbooking businesses who give on-site instructions in various techniques, and
each of these businesspersons donates a portion of their day's profits to JDRF.
Additionally, we hold a silent auction wherein participants purchase tickets for
a chance to win prizes donated by local and national businesses.
I am working on establishing partnerships with national and local businesses. I am writing today to ask whether you would like to partner with us by donating materials, which we would be able to either auction at the crop or add to the goodie bags?
I would love to be able to add your name to our list of supporters for 2007.
With your permission, your business name would be added to the list of
supporters that will appear on all of our advertising and promotion throughout
the community. I also welcome any promotional brochures you may wish to supply, which would be added to attendees' goodie bags (we anticipate 70 attendees). Your participation would be great advertisement for your new venture and, afterall, who goes to a retreat by
themselves? Nobody I know - we always take a friend!
I may be reached at the address, phone and/or email below, and look forward to
your positive response. Working together, we can make a difference…we can find a
cure.
Sincerely,
Sara Fink
