My Dad would definitely love the german chocolate ones.

Question: Could you substitute melted chocolate for the chocolate confectioners coating? (I've never heard of it either)

Talked to my husband about this and he thinks it is some form of candy making chocolate. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

ok...yes let me explain.......the conf coating is a choc product you can buy.....I did forget to add my quick and easy cheat..so sorry(I'm blaming the holidays! )

you can absolutely just melt 3-4 cups of choc chips in a pan set over boiling water. (any chips will work also...weather you like semi sweet/milk-any kind!)

(quick note...if you wanted to something with a red velvet cake for example-white chips would be your best option)

or for those of you who make the buckeyes you can melt the choc w/some parafin wax but hey to keep the whole thing quick easy and simple...just melt the chips!!!

sorry it took me so long to check in....shopping all day in freezing rain

Thank you! I suspected that the chocolate coating was candy coating. I think I will make these with chocolate melted with a tsp of Crisco in the crockpot. That's how I make the Buckeyes, and it's so easy. I have the chocolate in the house, so it will be convenient.

My Dad will be so thrilled to receive the German Chocolate version of these!! Thanks again! Merry Christmas!

We made these last night! What a hit and so easy to make! I made a Chocolate Devils Food Cake and Chocolate Frosting. Melted some ambrosia chocolate, drizzled over the top of each ball and sprinkled with powdered sugar! They taste great!

The only problem was that I am not a baker and usually ruin everything. THis time my cake turned out so good my dh was mad at me for demolishing it! Oh well these were better!

the red velvet ones with white chocolate sound perfect for Christmas. Maybe I'll use cream cheese frosting and put some green sugar or sprinkles on top. Thanks for the idea!
