Mmmmm....this is the best chocolate cake I've ever had. My mom used to make it for all our birthdays--she still does if we're in town. It's a moist, dense cake.
Cream together:
2 C. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. cocoa
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt.
Fill a 1 c. measuring cup with milk--minus 2 tbsp. Then add 2 tbsp of vinegar into milk to make 1 cup. To this mixture, add 2 tsp of baking soda. Let foam for a moment. Gently stir if necessary.
Add sour milk mixture to creamed ingredients.
Mix in 2 c of flour.
Then add 1 c boiling water and stir.
Pour into greased 9x13 pan. (Batter is fairly runny)
Bake @ 350 for 30-35 min.
When cool, top w/ frosting. Enjoy! Let me know if you make it and how it turns out.
