Indy...Tiramisu is actually a pretty uncomplicated dessert-the work is mainly in what you do to make it look pretty ...and the fun thing about it also(at least for me)is that you can utilize the idea and flavors a few different way....

this is the classic tiramisu....
(I'll post a great tiramisu cake later also-both are fantastic)

6 egg yolks
1 1/4 c sugar
1 1/4 c mascarpone cheese
(if you can't find mascarpone do this:
8 oz cream cheese, 1/4 c sour cream 2 Tbs cream whipped together)
1 3/4 c heavy whipping cream
2 (12oz)pkg ladyfingers (buy the SOFT ones)
1/3 c coffee flavored liqueur (or espresso)

1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
1 (1 ounce) square semisweet chocolate

Mix egg yolks and sugar in the top of a double boiler, over boiling water. Reduce heat to low, and cook for about 10 min, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and whip yolks til thick and lemon colored.

Add mascarpone to whipped yolks, beat til combined.

In a chilled bowl(I toss mine in the freezer), whip cream to stiff peaks. Gently fold into yolk mixture and set aside.

Split the lady fingers in half, and line the bottom and sides of a large glass bowl. Brush with coffee liqueur(or espresso).
Spoon half of the cream filling over the lady fingers.
Repeat ladyfingers, coffee liqueur and filling layers.
Garnish with cocoa and chocolate curls.
Refrigerate overnight.

To make the chocolate curls, use a vegetable peeler and run it down the edge of the chocolate bar.

Honestly this is NOT hard...and the results will WOW anyone you serve it too.
