Now, I don't get to watch her regularly, but I'm pretty sure this was a new episode, and it kinda freaked me out a bit concerning germs and dust mites!!
The show started with 6 women who were getting a makeover and donating their long beautiful hair to Locks of Love(they all looked very nice when they showed them at the end of the show, btw) What that had to do with the rest of the show, I don't know.
Then they started talking about germs around the house and went to this lady's house to look at all of her dirty stuff, including a funky looking kitchen sponge, raggy bath towels, a disposable razor that she had been using for a year, underware that was worn out and pinned together, and her pillows that i think she said were wedding gifts that were 30 years old!!! yikes!!! I would never let people in MY house to look at stuff like that, BUT, I would never have 30 y.o. pillows and once my towels get raggy i use them to wash my car!! They were also showing a woman who had tons of old medication that she had saved dating back to the 80's and was using it if she needed or giving it to her friends to use!!! And another woman who won't throw away ziploc type bags and Oprah even said that she washes and reuses them too!! I realize that these are extreme cases, but wow, what an eye opening show!! Any thoughts, ladies???

This episode was a rerun. But I know I would never let anyone in my house and go on TV with all that stuff. You have to know that just with drool alone to buy some new pillows every now and again. I won't even use a sponge, I use dish rags and throw them in the machine a couple times a day. I do reuse zip bags if they weren't use for meat.
I don't know what the hair had to do with the show either. But OMG their hair was so beautiful before. Some of them could have used a trim or some layers or a new color to jazz it up. But cut it off I wanted to cry for them!!

I felt a little bad for the lady! She was still in her robe and her hair wasn't done or anything. Shame on her daughters! That said, this episode was gross! DH hates sponges, prefers paper towels, because the thought of germs multiplying on dish rags and sponges grosses him out. I microwave my sponge for 30 seconds, every other day to kill germs. Heard that somewhere. I think you can also throw them in the dishwasher with the dishes and that will kill the germs. I also set it up on one end so that it can dry faster, so bacteria doesn't grow.
I think the hair had something to do with, "How often do you...?" Cut your hair? I don't know. The meat in the freezer since 1996 was disgusting! Sorry, but if you still have meat from that long ago, how often are you really eating meat? I think you can afford to replace it! I usually cycle things through my freezer every six months or so. I've gone up to a year with some things, but 10??? If I can't identify it, I don't use it.

I have a question. I saw the last half and she said something about wash your sheets. What was that about? How often should you wash them? I wash mine at the very least once a week.IS that ok?

I didn't see it, but the frozen food part made me think of what my MIL told me this fall. Her parents had moved from ND to the Twin Cities in 1996 and this fall one of their two upright freezes went out. While cleaning it out my MIL found meat and veggie from before 1996.
I don't quite remember, but I want to say some of the veggies from their garden were 20 years old. Can you imagine? Gross. This means they brought all that food with them somehow while they moved down here. It is at least I five hour drove from where they moved from, but they are old so they probably took longer then that.
How did they keep it all cold for that long? Or did they just let it warm up and then freeze it again? I'm not really sure, but I know that DH has brought home deer meat from visiting his other grandpa in the same area and just let it sit out in the back seat of the car all the way home. He thought it was just fine and poped it back in the freezer like it wasn't a big deal. Personally, I don't eat any of the deer meat he brings home from his visits anymore.

I saw that episode yesterday and it totally grossed me out! I went out today and bought new pillows for me and my dd (my dh just got a new one last fall). I've also been vacuuming mattresses and furniture and washing blankets like crazy! Ewww, ewww, I just can't stand germs and dust mites!

I have seen that one too - soooo gross. However, some of that lady's problems reminded me of my grandmother who was borderline on hoarding. When we cleaned out her house there was tupperware older than me and (this was 5 years ago, but still...) there were sodas at the bottom of the stack in their storage room that had pull-tabs on them. I can't remember when they stopped making those, but I sure didn't want to try that soda!
The thought of sleeping on a 30 year old pillow is disgusting - I don't buy expensive ones because I replace them all of the time. And a razor for a year? She's lucky she didn't get staph from a razor nick.
