I saw the movie but haven't read the book yet. I don't completely understand. Were the separate group of priests bad guys who knew the truth but wanted to destroy it? Is there any proof that Jesus and Mary Magdolin were intimate/married? Are their books/scriptures out there that didn't get placed in the Bible? I don't want to start a religious dispute, I just didn't completely understand the movie.

Actually, google this movie and you'll get all the answers. There are a few sites which review the movie and book. The book is a work of fiction, as the author states. Many of his things are inaccurate, but that is for poetic and dramatic license. No, there is no proof of the relationship. Much of both the movie and book are conjecture. Much of it also makes you think about the possibilities...

The secret society is real and does exist, but their goals are much different, and they don't, to the best of my knowledge, resort to murder. However, they do use self flaggelation and the thigh barbs, along with other "punishments" for atonement.

As you say you don't want to cause religious arguement- and I totally agree with you on that. I have always thought that the Bible is open to interpretation and would not be surprised if it was missing a few pages or even wrote incorrectly. When you look into it some more (history channel talks about the codes and Bible times a lot) there is things that really make it possible that Jesus and Mary of Magdeline were married- actually all things are possible and I could honestly see that some of the stuff would be taken out to make Jesus look God like and not man like. That is just my opinion though- please don't take offense anyone! But I must say that Jesus and Mary Magdeline both came from "houses" and usually in tose times meant that they were from a "prestigious" family in those times (I heard that on the history channel a while ago).

I do believe that both of those groups are real though (from watching History channel).

But to me, the big thing about Da Vinci Code and his other wonderful books, is how well-written and smart they are. I really was amazed at the intricate weaving of plots and storylines, along with miniscule details - remember things, and they tie together. I'm no Rhodes Scholar, but I like the brain teasing and feel it's intelligent writing unlike few others. It's pure entertainment, and very unrealistic (using a tarp out of a helicopter as a parachute in Angels and Demons), but pure entertainment.

This is exactly what I was thinking!

Pure entertainment. I loved the book, but you do have to have an open mind. Most of it is a story for entertainment. He throws in a few facts, like mentioned here by desertmom, but it is just a really good murder mystery!!

I never understood what everyone was so up in arms about!!
