What is your opinion of Amy? She says "In his heart I know that he is still the young man that I fell in love with who wanted nothing more than some good pastureland to breed beautiful horses." Has she completely misjudged her husband, particularly how ambitious a man he is?

I think she has. It was interesting comparing her character in this novel compared to the Queen's Fool. She was portrayed far less sympathetically in that novel, but the one similarity was her simplicity. She was an uneducated, simple woman in the 1500's. I can't imagine what that must have been like, felt like, what the overall experience would have been.

I think she was naive to the extreme. While Robert grew up and became ambitious, she never really grew up.

Yes very well put!!

But on the other hand she was not afraid to stand up to him at times. She pushed his buttons on more than one occasion, in an attempt to get what she wanted. Even though she never did.

The biggest eye opener (for her) should have been that house/land she picked out, thinking that he wanted to go back to a simple life. That was when she had misjudged him the most....but it was probably too late for her to even attempt anything else....it was over for her at that point....
