The last couple of book discussions haven't had a ton of participation.
I go through a lot of suggestions to post polls so that we can all join in and read the same book and then post discussion questions at the end of reading whatever book "won" the vote.
So, who is IN?? Who is willing to read along with us and participate in the discussions after reading??
Please sign up here....
This is something that I really enjoy doing...so I hope we can get a decent amount of participation for the book that we are reading now.
The Girls Who Went Away: The Hidden History of Women Who Surrendered Children for Adoption in the Decades Before Roe v. Wade by Ann Fessler
Thank you all for your time!!

I can try and join the discussions on this book since i have read it before. I will see how much i can remember of it, i am not sure i will have a chance to re-read it again lately. The last time i read it i had to order it from another library.

BY THE WAY!! I didn't want to put her on the spot before....but Claire has offered to host the questions for this book. So she will be the one starting up the discussions when we are all done reading this one...most likely early September.
Thank you Claire for doing that!!

I feel I have an eclectic taste in books but more often than not the books picked are not interesting to me at all. I guess I'm not the typical reading mom.
There are times when I am indifferent towards a book... not excited about it but not entirely turned off by it. I would read it if I had time to get it before the round starts. I am incredibly cheap when it comes to books. I just can't bring myself to buy books at retail unless I have a gift card and even then it is on sale or better yet clearance. I scour used book stores, I try to get it from paperbackswap.com, and bookcrossings.com. I hunt books at yard sales and flea markets, borrow from friends, and order from Amazon if it's used. I was thinking if the books were voted on early that would give me a chance to find the book before it's started.
Ex: you just voted on a book, vote on a second book to be read once the current one is finished. Once the 2nd book is started vote on the 3rd book so on and so forth.

Well I'd like to participate in the book discussions. I loved doing the one on The Other Boleyn Girl. But I'm in an online book group where we do book rings. Books are circulated around, and if you don't read the book as soon as you get it, then you're holding up other people. I've read some wonderful books that way that I might not have otherwise, so I've enjoyed it, but it doesn't leave me much time to read books for here. I got the James Patterson book you were doing, but it was over before I could even get to read it.
So although I'd like to participate, unless it's a book I've already read, or one I'm getting ready to read, it will be hard to work it in. I'm sure I won't read this month's pick.

Hey, aliadam, what's a book ring? Is that part of paperback swap?
And, goin24/7, I totally understand what you are saying. Some of the choices lately have been newer books and it was getting expensive to buy the books since they were not in the library yet. That is one reason I am excited about this one. It has been out awhile and I know you can get it at the library!

No, it with ANOTHER book swap group I belong too. (Like I need more groups to keep my butt anchored in this computer chair ) I love both of my book trading groups for different reasons. But the one that does the rings is smaller and you get to know the people somewhat. Someone will get a newly released (or even prior to release advanced reading copy) and they'll post it and ask if anyone would like to read it. People will sign up and then they'll circulate the book around. So whenever I receive the books there are usually people behind me waiting for it also, and they get cranky if people hold up the ring. I've read a lot of books I probably wouldn't have on my own, and most of them I've loved. That's where I got Water for Elephants (LOVED!), The Camel Bookmobile (LOVED!!) and With Love, From Baghdad (very cute), and A Thousand Splendid Suns(my favorite book so far this year). I just finished a book ring book Wed, and have another on the way now, so it keeps me on my toes.
