Taylor hasn't disappeared off the map. He is touring in the Phillipines this week & just appeared over the weekend on the finale of "Asian Idol". I saw it on line & it was a hoot - the asian version of Ryan Seacrest in his plaid sportscoat! LOL!
Fantasia is on broadway starring in The Color Purple & is supposedly a huge draw. Reuben - I don't know. I hear Bo Bice's new album is good - I heard a few off his myspace page that a friend told me to check out. For me it was a mix, I liked some & not others.
I think Taylor's brand of music is not the sort to get a lot of airplay, period. Never mind that he pissed off the Idol franchise by getting out of the contract with them and getting his own management (which I do think affected his airplay). He sees himself more of a Jimmy Buffet sort of performer - people go see him live & buy the CDs but he's not a top 40 artist. Fine with me so long as he keeps making enough $$ to keep putting out CDs. I do think this first CD was handled poorly tho. In past years, the Idol winner is the first one out w/ a CD. In his year, they let Pickler & Daughtry release first. Pickler & Daughtry released singles to radio, then the CD was released, and the single was played on the air. For Taylor - don't ask me why - the CD was released after theirs, and then the single wasn't released for nearly TWO MONTHS. Talk about letting all the hype die down. And then they released the wrong song, IMO. And, of course, Pickler, Daughtry, Elliott Yamin, even Bucky got videos. Where was Taylor's video?
As far as McPhee, her sales were pretty low. She mostly does photo shoots. She just got engaged to the guy she's been dating who is 20 years older than her.
I guess you can tell I read mj's big blog (an Idol blog) fairly regularly.
